No not a recruiter and if I were I sure wouldn't be posting here. Obviously, you must be union and has no bearing on this thread subject and is irrelevant. Secondly, you don't know what I or any other non-union driver makes, and if anyone has devalued the automotive industry it's the union worker for their pure greed, having been UAW local 252 in a skilled trade of plastic injection molding dies, I saw first-hand the mentality of union workers. Bunch of overpaid whiny crybabies. ...PMTG hardly pays pennies on the dollar and I agree that most likely the union has better benefits. Having seniority in a union means everything, you can be a complete feck-up and the guy behind you has a sterling record and the feck-up gets first choice. Promotions based on time at job...period, with no merit.

Just to set the record straight with FACT...BMW's hauled out of Baltimore pays far better than ones out of Jersey. FACT: The OTR driver of PMTG makes better money than the regional driver. PMTG is always losing drivers and 90% + are regional. FACT: I was the only OTR driver in my class of 4, the other 3 had quit by the 6 month mark. FACT: asking for time off is usually granted (except 4th QTR) and then giving proper notification time like a month (waiting to the last minute for your anniversary that you knew a year in advance is your own fault) FACT: Terminal/yard managers don't make the call on the driver getting time off, that comes straight from corporate in Michigan after you've submitted a request online. FACT: PMTG does not haul "junk" BMW, Mercedes, and Porsche are far from. FACT: Trucks break down, welcome to PMTG.

I'm not talking about Subaru's, and NO I don't forget, and that's a back-haul. What does that have to do with it? I don't make the rates, I just drive, load, and unload. If I made the rates I sure wouldn't be doing the job I'm doing would I? Fair enough?

Besides, I don't know where your getting that .32 a mile bit but, that's way off base. Let me just give you an example. If I take a load of Subaru's either 8 or 9 to the Philadelphia area from Lafayette I make roughly $50 a car. Take a load of BMW's or Mini's to St .Louis from Baltimore and I make about $130 per car. Newer drivers get less, more senior drivers get more and that increases every year on your employment anniversary.

There is no such thing as a back haul, but that is an old debate.

However, am curious how all of this is going to turn out.

"US vehicle logistics services provider MetroGistics is joining up operations and customers with trucking provider Precision Motor Transport Group (PMTG) and less-than-truckload service provider, McNutt Automotive Logistics. Both MetroGistics and McNutt will eventually merge to become a single company.
The agreement will produce a mixed transport asset heavy and light model: ‘asset medium’, according to the three companies, which share the same private equity investor, Corinthian Capital Group. MetroGistics and McNutt, both based in Missouri, act as brokers for moving vehicles across the US; PMTG, meanwhile, is an asset-heavy car-haul company, based in Michigan, that transports vehicles via 300-plus covered and uncovered trucks."

No such thing as a back-haul? Well okay...Really doesn't matter to me. I learned it here. As far as the merger and investment side of the business is concerned I don't keep up on the status-quo of the corporate side. We just received the last of the 25 new Western Star open-racks. So the investors are obviously thinking that was a sound business decision to profit on.

That's correct there is no "backhaul". If it gets loaded it should pay full price or let it sit. Rates suck because now everyone wants the "backhaul" price but truckers will continue to be too stupid to figure that out.

Truckers too stupid huh? That's a huge broad brush of judgment you just labeled everyone with, and your conclusion is based on what? I got news for you...As an employee you don't have the right to let loads sit. You don't have the right to refuse work or else your not going to be working for that company very long. Make $250 a week in unemployment sitting on my ### because I refused a load or make $70,000+ including the back-hauls. Gee, let me think...ummm...that's a tough one... I'll take having a job for $1000 Alex. We have people in our society that want to get $15.00 an hour for flipping burgers, I want more money getting back-hauls. What I want, and what I get are totally two different things. Here Endeth the Lesson.

Are truckers stupid? I'll put it this way, before starting this business I had no clue people this stupid were out there and in such numbers. Maybe we're stopping at different truckstops?

If you're an employee then what I said doesn't apply to you as you are only following instructions. But if you do ever get out on your own then yes try to not have the "backhaul" mentality like all the ###### truckers who are killing our rates. Thanks

So how goes it at PMTG?

    When I was there(2009) I ran regional..6 on 1 off.
I live right in the middle of Curtis bay and jersey city so I did ok.
Ran harder out of Jersey City even though I was based out of Curtis Bay.

Equipment maintenance/breakdowns ran me off..Spent more time on the side of the road earning $10/hour then I did running..or so it seemed.
Plus the .16/mile deadhead was lovely.
I hear you guys make less than that now.
If PMTG would invest more into equipment they might have been able to stay on top.
But sadly it's not working that way.
Once Mercedes went open car it was all over.
They've lost a lot of contracts and the ones they didn't loose they share with other carriers.

The funny thing is PMTG WAS a top grade outfit..you had to have tons of experience to come on board.
Now they recruit out of driving school.
Everyone needs to start somewhere..after working there a year I'd move on.

That's what a friend of mine did..put his time in with them and moved on to Fleetcar.
He's doing very well and driving new equipment.

As for it being an easy job..I call BS on that.
It's hard work, long hours with a lot of attention to detail needed.
I'm sure the rookie thought it was easy till he got his 1st exception(damages).
Once they take the deductible out of your check it kind of wakes you up.
When I was there they didn't have a deductible you had to pay.

I wish you all luck running cars..IMO it's harder than flatbed.
