Personal experience today with my local truck wash owner..
I pulled in a bay and had only two guys washing my truck versus 8 guys....
So I jokenly ask the owner what's up with your employees ?
He replied that they quit working cause they can now receive a check from the government and are showing the rest of the employees how to do it...

Can't blame then. It's very demotivating for someone to get $600 a week for doing nothing, yet working a crap job 40hrs a week results in less money. $600/wk take home is like $18/hr.

And of course, the one factor that would send people back to work off unemployment was having to pay taxes on the unemployment payments. Then the government decided to exempt the first $10,200, so they can now weigh how long to not work based on their projected IRS refund check.
    More FREE money.

If they are able body & mentally fit to work then they should be working if they choose to refuse to work they should not be entitled to any kind of public assistance of any kind

Go to hell, weve had nothing but crappy parenting telling us to go 150k in debt for degrees that are useless and our grandparents "graciously" renting us property at 6x inflated rates that we should be buying with real jobs 15 years ago. Along with the legislation their generation passed requiring higher and higher certification thats consistently out of reach.

You had lazy people in your generation, dont blame all millenials for a problem the boomers created.

(Am technically the earliest one can be called a millenial)

And right there you just summed up the Right's issue with 99.99999% of social welfare programs. I'd like to help people that need help. But the lazy ones need loaded into a box car and disposed of.

Its certainly a fairer and more evenhanded approach.

This whole thread is acting like unemployment is the problem instead of how it works as a disincentive to work.

Ubi is simple, everyone gets the cash, wether working or not, age and income dont get factored.

All thr complaints about how people dont want to work because theyll loose 200$ a week by working, gone.

Anyone willing to work does better than those that dont.

You can quibble about what rate to set it at or how to pay for it, but the status quo of how things sit right now is overpay people to not work and then write a blank check from the fed already.

Id welcome ANY arguement that says ubi would be a worse way to go about this than what we have now

    gentleroger Thanks this.
