Its not the thing itself, but a person's reaction to the thing.

In this case, it seems you did Dumb Thing 1 and Dumb Thing 2. Either Thing by itself isn't a big deal, but when the Things get together bad stuff happens.

But it's not the Things that got the Safety Critter showing his teeth, it was your reaction to the Things. Your reactions are what haunt Safety Critter nightmares. Defensiveness, impulsiveness, deflecting, hiding, etc are what take small, insignificant problems and turn them into conflagrations that bankrupt companies.

Think about how you reacted to some of the advice and criticism you received in this thread. Had you reacted the same way during that conversation I guarantee you would be gone.

It's one of the nice things about TTR - you can get some of the crazy out of your head and really think about how you want to portray yourself when you get into these situations. You can also read and learn vicariously from others mistakes and stupidities.

As for the safety awards - it's not the miles that you've got behind you - it's the ones in front of you.
