Just own it. No matter what it is, most things are going to be considered "preventable." Someone backed into you at a truck stop, but you weren't all the way back in your space, it was preventable on your end.
When stuff happens, get witness reports and phone numbers. If police are involved follow your company's rules on that 100%, if it's in your own private car, it's your call. But I know from experience, that you can go to court, and be not guilty, but that accident is still preventable.

Boss man says to us in safety meet. If you hit a deer and cant drive away, its a Preventable accident, if you can drive to a parking lot or get off down the road, then non-preventable. I says, "Say What?". Ha, Ha. Haaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Exactly, But told him the freakin rule sucks. You hit a deer, and try to avoid, game over. But there dumb arse rules are stupid, and I told them that. 42 years HIT Notting, No tickets, accidents, Incidents, Just lucky. The latest award was another 1 million mile award, took 16 years to get, Local driving Chicago, and Near by Suburbs. Try Freakin Chicago. Probably shortened my life span by 10years. I got the award and asked for gift certificates instead, boss says, 10 out of 10 drivers would want the award, I said "What the heck am I going to do with an award, My truckin days are almost over, at any time they piss me off. I can sit the rest of my days on my porch drinking STARBUCKS. Ha, Ha, HAAAAAAA

I would just tell him that "deer's" life is not worth your "dear" life, career, or anybody else s life trying to avoid it. I would rather spend a few hundred dollars fixing a truck and moving on, versus a lawsuit for you trying to protect your life, record , and everyone else s

At my time in life of my career, I could care less, but don't want to get hurt, avoiding any deer. I would hit the hooks, and if the hoofs fly, so it goes. These days companies come up with the stupidest rules. No win situations. They don't like it when I tell them what I think.
