Hey, I hope this is in the right section. I'm new to the "owner operator" I have a 16 ft box truck, which I use to make local deliveries. The stuff I deliver is extremely heavy. I'm talking about pallets that have 500-1,800 lbs of stuff on them. My truck is 15,000 lbs gvwr. I often deliver 2 or 3 pallets that may weigh up to 1,800lbs a piece. I drop them off and often have round trips. I never go over my trucks legal limit. I know most long distance tractor trailer companies pay their employees by the mile. I don't work for a company though and I do mostly local stuff. Is there anyplace that can give me a general idea of what rates are? I'm not sure if I should charge by weight? My customers want me to give them a list of my prices and I'm not sure how to charge them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

Anybody? I'm just trying to figure out how o/o's charge. I've read that some trucking companies charge $4.00 a mile for local stuff and anything long distance, they lower amount of dollars per mile?

Out west most local work is charged by the hour. For a straight truck I would say probably around $60 to $70 an hour, maybe more on the east coast. Also usualy charge at least one way travel time to get to where you need to load from your terminal.

thank you. I'll look into that.
