Pride Transport, SLC Deceptive Hiring Practices

I never factored X-pay into the equation . It will just piss you off trying to chase it. If you can't avg 50mph on your loads at any company you need to jump ship because your getting hosed. And if your having to put in 70hrs to get avg miles the hose is a fire hose, not a garden hose.
Don't know your experience level, but before IDC got bought over 2yrs ago they counted up to 5 & paid me 48cpm & I avg 264? per week for the 6 mo I was there before Heartland took over.
41cpm is crap in 2020. If you adjust for inflation I made 50cpm my 1st full yr in OTR. What there paying at some of these OTR outfits is criminal. Paying a piece rate when a box dictates your production is BS also.
miliage pay is an outdated concept when all OTR companies could pay you for log hrs on line 3 & 4.
I got sent home after 5hrs today because my company doesn't want to pay more the 10hrs OT & at $42 per hr I don't blame them.

 

We have a daycab heavyhaul truck with the scoop on the top & governed at 65 I drove for 1 week & avg 4 gallons per day less fuel then my 70mph truck with no aerodynamics doing the same work.. over 1 week that 1 truck is $60 bucks cheaper in fuel. At a big co? That & insurance is why they do it.

 

Yep they do, and I dont have to mosey along at 62 mph in some Prime truck holding up traffic either.

 

I've been thinking about this OP for quite a while now.

So. "Scripted routes." That's fuel routing, and it's not by any means unique to Pride. It's a good business practice to SAVE FUEL, which SAVES MONEY.

You know, BUSINESS. PROFIT. PAYCHECKS.

Anyhow, I have been driving for Pride for a month. I did a couple of dedicated runs at first, in order to get the rig to my home to get my gear. I spent some time in the I-5 corridor, and have now made a foray into east coast delivery for Pride Transport.

I don't understand where this OP was coming from, nor do I agree with the fantastic claims made. It's looking more and more like I made the right move by joining Pride Transport.

Good equipment, well maintained.

Proficient, friendly, professional staff.

Fair wages and compensation, and good benefits.

Good loads, good lanes, good miles.

 

This doesn't make sense to me- wouldn't the company want to get their drivers doing more loads faster, which equals more money for the company? I think it's just ineptitude by the load planners/ dms. If this is brought to the attention of higher ups they, hopefully, would change things up to get drivers rolling.

 

Just realized.. maybe they run drivers less bc there's not enough miles to go around bc they have to overhire bc there's too much turnover.

 

Our maybe, just maybe, the driver had a crappy attitude, as shown in the op.

I'm getting beaucoup miles with Pride, a month into it.

I communicate with dispatch. I run the routes I'm given. I fuel where I'm told to fuel. I don't complain. I submit my macros. I do my job.

It's not real complicated.

 

I agree 100%. 50000/year or $1000/week these days is nothing. Look at the housing prices out there- and they keep going up! Even apartments are expensive.

Add in rising grocery costs and other expenses $1000/week you can barely get by. If you have 2 kids and a wife $1000 is peanuts. Your wife will probably divorce you for not making enough.

This isnt 1990 or 1985. Back then $50k was decent- this is 2020 almost 2021!!

Pride has always been deceptive. Never heard a good word about them as long as I have been following trucking.

 

What a spectacular example of Confirmation Bias.
