Way to go Jim. You're on your way! Yep, you're one big step ahead of the game... now you can focus on soaking up as much info as you can at orientation, while the others are studying for and taking the permit test.

I had my instructor before they even had my Student ID Card made. You should only have to wait a couple of days at most... but I know they do get backed up sometimes and guys have to wait longer.

    Hey MT.

You should definitely go ahead and get your permit before you get there. That is what I did. It not only takes some major stress/pressure off of you, but it also allows you to sit in on some extra classes and also get some extra work on the simulator. It is definitely to your advantage.

As far as your location... some of these other guys that have more experience will be able to answer better than me... but I know we do have quite a bit of freight in and out of the Carolinas. I have been out here for only 5 weeks and I have traveled through Charlotte a couple of times already.

    Good luck man.

    Major Tom Thanks this.

Hometime at Prime works like this... you request it with enough lead that we can put the request in the computer and generate a load to get you there. It's better to provide a range than an exact date, because this depends on freight. You hook the load, take it to the receiver, drop the empty trailer where they tell you to, and bobtail home. Works in reverse on the way out.

There are quite a few shippers and receivers in the Charlotte area that we service, so that beats being out in the serious boonies somewhere.

DirtySideDown and Major Tom Thank this.

    Hey IP.

I live in Ozark. As a company driver, do you think they are going to let me bobtail home from SPRIMO when I take hometime... or are they going to make me keep it on the yard once I get there like all other company drivers?

Not having a map handy, how far is it from SPRIMO to home?

Thanks DirtySide I knew it would help to get my permit first. I'm really excited and ready to get into a truck & learn everything I can soak up. I'm praying God will provide me with a dedicated professional who wants to teach a student to be a dedicated professional. Also it would help if that professional is a born again christian. To everyone that is going to SpringMo on Feb 22 I look forward to meeting you there.

Interesting......I asked on the other forum about bobtailing home and was told, "It's not gonna happen." What gives?

You can bobtail home, you just can't use the bobtail as a POV once you get there. Once you get it home, it must be parked. You are also responsible for anything that happens to it, so be sure it's in a safe and secure area or get with dispatch to help find you a place to park it.
