I've been on the company side since July when I finished training. Since then, I've been averaging between 2500 and 2700 miles per week. A few weeks ago, I had a terrible week. Only about 1200 miles. But my dispatcher floated an extra $200 to my paycheck. How can I argue with that? I think that's the first time I was ever below 2000 miles so far. Getting into the slow season though. We'll see how things are in January.

Well, if you're going to survive in this business, one should get over to the IRS website and find out quick. It's part of the biggest scam out there, and will get you the stuckee-driver in trouble quick. Unless you're calling your own shots, you're an employee. Its really common for a guy trying to run a couple of trucks to tell you you're an independent (1099) contractor, when in fact you fail one or more of the 20-or-so tests you have to pass in order to not be considered an employee.
And you are responsible for filing your own taxes - 100% responsible. There is no split between you and the company you're leased to... the company pays corporate taxes for whatever income they receive from a load, and you do the same with your income and expenses.DirtySideDown Thanks this. -
Your responding to a guy who got banned... for which I can only hope for was going off topic one too many times. (hint)

HINT: Other people actually READ stuff here...

Yeah, my guess is he got banned for spamming for the USPS-- all the while, running down trucking and trucking companies. After all, in a nutshell, that is exactly what he was doing.

Well I have made my decision. I am going to go to Prime. It will probably be the second week in January.
I did a lot of study since the middle of September. I think that based on the info that I have, Prime has the best training! I am looking forward to it. I know it will be a lifestyle change and my wife and I are willing to accept it. I appreciate all of the posts especially from Iron Pony and U2 Exit.
I look forward to meeting you at some point and time!
Thanks!
