Most companies that are not self insured AND are training are just giving people experience AFTER they get their CDL. A few who do provide CDL training have very LOW compensation packages. In other words, those companies are the ones paying $0.21 per mile to new drivers. They can't afford to pay the insurance AND pay what Prime pays, which is $0.37/mile starting and a $0.05 boost if they take a lightweight truck.
Canada REQUIRES all CMV's to be limited to 65 MPH
Prime DOES provide fuel incentives that are pretty much a penny per tenth of a MPG over 7.5 or something (not sure exactly). Drive 2400 miles in a week and get just one tenth over the standard is a $24 raise. Get 5 tenths over and all of a sudden you are talking about over $100 raise! not bad for a weeks work. Many drivers push 3000 miles when they can.
