Generally speaking, yes, at least at the bulk of the places who receive the bulk of the trucks begin receiving very early AM. Hunt's point is great because you can go in almost anytime and there is a staging area you can park (safely) until your receiving time. Once your empty in NYC then hopefully you're preplanned out of the city for next PU or stop, find the way out to I-95 or other thoroughfare and be on your way. Loading in the city is just done however it works out, whenever it works out.

Key thing about initial NYC experiences is get GOOD directions, by whatever means available, and hopefully have a preplan before you go in and empty. Forget about any GPS routing because they will rarely work the way you'd want it to and will get you in trouble, or run you around the world to get there.

EXPECT to drive under structures marked less then 13'0"

That's a pretty long way around to get to Hunts Point. If you want to go in on Leggett, right over the GWB take 87S to Exit one. Right off the ramp, Left on to Bruckner, the right on to Leggett, its the second Blue Bridge you come too. Bit of a tight Buttonhook, but not difficult, especially in the wee hours, or if you take the 895 route, from the Bruckner, just turn left onto Tiffany, then left on Randell. You pass by that to get to Leggett coming from the north

Depends, if your doing multiple drops..... appt is usually whenever you get there.
Western beef sucks. Have never got out of that place in less than 4 hrs.

Once you've been to NYC, it's not that bad. Learn what roads get you in and out, be very patient, and for city streets. ... keep that head on a swivel. Bicyclists, pedestrians, cars.... all in a hurry.
