I am looking to get into heavy hauling and I heard prime is starting a new division. They seem like a really good company. I want to be an owner operator too, but my credit is bad. This seems like the fastest way to the top. Can anybody give me some advice or pointers.

Prime is just about one of the worst companies in North America, do some research. So any Prime Heavy Haul would be also, with the resulting negative fall-out for the rest of the industry. It would be the equilivant of Swift starting a heavy-haul division. If you are serious, start as a company driver with a company such as ATS, and learn properly, the perhaps LATER as an owner-operator, after several years of experience...jamespmack Thanks this.

How did you arrive at the conclusion that Prime is a good company? What sets them above the rest of the established heavy haul and open deck carriers already in business? What criteria did you use? What other heavy haul companies did you check or compare Prime to?Western flyer and jamespmack Thank this.

I talked to them on the phone. They were very friendly and open. They have a good safety record and multiple awards from the ATA. The other heavy haul companies want me to start in the flat bed division. If will take too long to reach my goals with them.

Do you have any heavy haul experience? Do you have any open deck hauling experience?Oxbow, D.Tibbitt and jamespmack Thank this.

If prime is just starting up a heavy haul division you have to think about how busy youll be. Also finding escorts and getting permits. The other companies already have plenty of freight and deal witj getting escorts and permit . Not syaing they are perfect but something to think about. Also might be better to start flatbed and work your way up so you get more comfortable and knowledgeable about the load . Yes it may push your goals back a little but youll have more time to work on your credit score to get your truck outside of the company youre working for. I dont do heavy haul this is just my 2 cents worth. Hope it gives you something to think about
