Sounds like a lot of negative thinking, nothing I'm interested in. Never stated I didn't have a lot to learn.. You never stop learning. But I do know I know a whole more then most newbie drivers, that's a fact. I also stated I may lease sooner or later, did not say I'm starting out doing that. I'm going company first. Anyone can learn to drive a truck.. I highly look forward to that challenge. I've talked to some real ediots that are driving a big rig.. I know I def can. As far as buying your own rig.. That's a great idea I have already thought of plenty.. But I think going company then doing one or two leases team driving would be a great way to learn the ins and out of running your business before purchasing a truck from a dealer. Like I said this going to be my career and I have already done about as much research you can do from the internet, thanks for your 2 cents. You also won't EVER see me whining on this forum about one of my decisions.

I was a company driver at Prime. I can say they never pressured me into a lease. If you dont mind staying out for 4 weeks to 6 weeks at a time Prime is a great place. I dont know anything really about Millis. I was at Prime back in 05 so I never worried about the 60 MPH trucks they have now, mine was set at 71 which was AWESOME! You never know, when you go out with your trainer you may want to stay team and talk your trainer into running a team on the truck and not training anymore. My trainer wanted to do that but I wanted to see what it was like on my own. I look back at it and if I would of stayed with him in his truck I would of been making a good bit of money with as much as we ran.

I would also reccomend staying with your trainer for the 80K miles so you would start out at .34 CPM(not sure if it is higher now). As for money I dont know what the avg is per week now because when I was there I was on paper logs and the QC was not looked at and matched to my logs so I would "run hard". Prime's equipment is awesome and very new, when I was there they got rid of the truck once they were 3-4 years old. My company truck was an 04 and had 270K miles on it. They are also very good when it comes to breakdowns and maintaining there trucks.

for sure milskired, thats funny thats when i was out on the road riding passenger with prime was in 2005, the truck was set at 71mph as well. dad leased a 05 with 40k miles on it. i know thats what i really like about prime is there equipment.. its flawless. im ready to stay out as much as i need to, you wont see me needing hometime at all, especially starting out.. i want cash and otr exp. dont have any kids or wife etc i gotta get home to. so ya know... just get the cash then come home of course and kick back for a weekend or so.

Prime's trucks are set at 62 on the pedal, and 65 on cruise - company or lease. If you don't meet the minimum company-side fuel economy requirements they'll turn them down from there - but with the new engines that's hard to screw up. Don't understand why you think that company drivers receive less loads/miles than the lease side does. They run our butts off either way - at least until you throw in the towel and set a long PTA.

As far as American Trucker and his views on leasing a truck are concerned, again, I'd consider his very minimal experience in the industry. If you try to run a lease truck like a company driver would, chasing miles, then yeah - you're going to have problems. We have a lot of very successful lease drivers here, it's not hard to make money on the lease side. I will say that your FM can make or break you at Prime - unlike some other carriers. They do have it set up in a way that makes it financially painful for a FM to go out of their way to make life difficult for you.

I love how you always through that little number out there.

So before 3 years ago what did you know before you walked into your truck driveing school? Nothing like most Newbies?

I've been around trucking ALLOT longer then that, i remember my dad going through truck driveing school years ago and reading through all his books and learning as he learn about trucking and trucking companies and the industry, so Please dont try to compare my limited OTR experiance to your 3 year Trucking Industry Experiance.

And just since you always seem to forget I've had My Class A Since March 28th 2008.....so that's a little more then 3 years....:biggrin_2558:

Says 0 to 1 year genius. Why don't you stick to commenting about all the carriers you've actually had experience with... like WS.

let me slow it down for ya Forest (0-1 years OTR)

Why, because allot of people come onto this forum all excited and full of Big dreams and ideas that people fill there heads with. Then they run out into trucking and screw themselves by either working for a company that will screw them like Werner or CRE, or they will get in WAY over there head with a lease.

And I did say in my OP in this thread that some L/O's are sucessfull and make more then company drivers, and some even get to hold a title to a old POS truck some day. AND i said he needs exp first......I didnt say DONT LEASE NEVER LEASE DONT GO TO PRIME. What I also said was go to millis, because they run a smaller area, can get you home more, care more about their drivers then prime, and dont even offer a fleece deal.

Just because I havent worked for either doesn't mean i dont know anythign about them.....

But by all mean you keep on thinking your better then every one because you have a wopping 3 years exp as a rent-a-trucker...

For some reason you take everything people post as some sort of personal attack against you or prime, you like prime and your happy leaseing a truck, good for you. Its certainly not for everyone.

AT, i was just involved into trucking as my dad was but i was to young to drive, trucking got in my blood bad once i hit the road with him. ive been studying missouri's cdl book for more then three months and can pass written test ez mode. book smarts i know like the back of my hand.. you have HIGHLY and i mean HIGHLY mis judged me if you think i dont already know the risk in leasing. my dad went under a couple times with no paycheck.. it sucked to see. but he kept a good head on his shoulders and stayed positive.. and came out on top and completed his lease and now drives local to get home everynight. where do you think i got my positive thinking?? i just like to hear other drivers advice etc but not negative stuff and comments that try to make me look like i just wanted to start driving a truck yesterday. but i do appreciate your opinion for real. ironpony... i didnt exactly say company drivers get different freight or worse freight.. but i have just heard things about that but you know how rumors go man. thanks for correcting me though.. i wanted to mention it hoping a prime driver can give me some insight on it, you did. i dont think company was as good as it is now as it was back in 2005 with prime. and yeah i didnt think prime truck were all goverened at like 58mph and stuff.. i know some drivers just roll slow especially if they got the time because it saves so much on fuel. thats fully understandable. but dont argue guys.. im not reading the thread for arguements. thanks a bunch.

I wasnt judgeing you at all, I just wanted to make sure you understand both the good and bad on what you were talking about. And as far a negative post lol Well you need to hear both sides. If you go and read just the positve post about CRE and then go to work for them, your still going to get screwed, but you wont see it comeing, had you read the bad post too you wouldn't even be there.

anyway good Luck, with getting your CDL.
