It was mandatory when I was a company driver 4.5 years ago.

As far as that truck from truck paper, the number on that truck was 66101, my first lease truck was within 10 trucks of that number. My truck left the fleet in September 2008, so that one has probably been an ex-prime truck for a few years.

Was going to get a link ofF PEDIGREES site for a more recent EX PRIME, but only truck on there was a Dodge Ram pickup.

Lot of FREIGHTLINER dealers with EX PRIMES ( based on spec and stripe ) on their lots and non are beat up looking.

Now this ones not so good looking

When I signed on, per diem was optional... that's why it seemed kind of strange to me. But then again, these guys change policy frequently without announcing things to the general driver population. The rate hasn't changed 7-cpm, and there's no charge for the privilege, correct?

Thanks, Admin, for keeping this positive! IP and Sazook - I will be making the move to Texas in 10 days, and back to Prime for orientation the 25th! I sense I will be working a lot out of the Saginaw drop lot! See y'all out there.

No charge other than lowered Social Security benefits and 401K benefits. As these are based off of gross and the per diem is not part of your gross salary.

There's advantages and disadvantages to it...

Another con is that if you go on workman's comp, its lowered.

    OTOH, it's tax-free money.

It lowers your AGI, withholding and taxes owed.

If you don't have enough deductions to itemize, the per diem deduction isn't enough to get you past the standard deduction. So you can count on your tax situation not changing. At least this gives you a shot at taking advantage of per diem... in some way.

You weren't planning on actually getting any social security now were you? The ponzi scheme established by the so-called "greatest generation" (aka my parents) was only meant to benefit them at their childrens expense, especially now that our children have determined its not in their interest to maintain their share of the bargan implicit in that lil' ol' social contract. They figure you oughta go invest your retirement in the nearest casino benefitting mostly really big business... aka Wall Street.

I wonder why the driver was cited for no insurance.

Because whoever owned that truck didn't have any - and it wasn't us. Look at the grille on it... that's a much older Century than anything Prime has on the road right now - looks to be an '06 or older. It could be that the paperwork hadn't caught up with the ownership change.

Also called a TRANSFER truck , that not a garbage hauler , used from transfer station to land fills.
