From what I have found so far Prime seems to have one of the longer training periods than some other companys, that being said I like fact they have reefer/flatbed & tanker all withen the same company.
If coming in with a CDL and doing your TNT time to get your 40k miles from what I can figure you would be with a trainer for at the least 3 months if not longer.
Apart from the not getting along with someone and switching trainers, do you useally stay with the same trainer during this whole training process?
Or is is it common to have a trainer for a month and say he wants to drive solo for awhile so you get put with another?
Also do you have much say in what division you would train in reef/flat/tank or does it pretty much depend where the work is most at the time and where they need drivers or have trainers available?
Thanks.. -
It depends on tbe runs you get it could take 2-3mnths i did 2 1/2 but didnt get 5k mi a wk either
If you get a good trainer you stick w/them i did psd/tnt with the same guy learned a lot you can train in whatever div you want but it also depends on whether a trainer is avail there are more trainersin the reefer div and it the # goes down fb and tanker u can do your 40k on the reefer side and then do the req training for fb/tanker afterwards if you cant get a trainer in those div right away....i didPrivy Thanks this. -
What DA1 said. He knows what hes talking about.

Thanks for the quick response.
So if I really wanted to start out F/B but had to do my TNT on the reefer side would I just keep running reefer after TNT until they had a trainer or an opening on the F/B side ?
Say after my 40k was done and
I got to switch over to F/B how many miles are you required to be with a trainer or is it just a time limit once you learn how to secure loads before they cut you loose on your own?
Thanks again... -
No prob....thats right if you did tnt on reefer side but no fb trainer was avail you could go reefer solo or wait for a trainer i had to wait 2wks for my fb trainer and it was suggested that i go reefer solo then try for a trainer later i didnt want 2go thru all of the switching later down the line just bc i waited doesnt mean itll happen to you but it does happen(my reefer fm was ready for me to get a truck and roll but i wanted to go fb)
If you go fb directly after tnt on the reefer side all you have to do is 30 days w/a fb trainer(more if you arent ready) then get a truck and roll
If you get a fb trainer to do tnt w/im not sure if its still mileage/days for the training may b 2months but thats just about the same as reeferPrivy Thanks this. -
Ive heard that TNT on the fb side goes by time, whether thats true or not, dont know. Youd have to ask a recruiter and see if they know. DA1 knows what hes talking about.
Privy Thanks this. -
Thanks you guys, Im about ready to make the move but have read where Prime may not be taking CDL holders w/out recent otr at this time. I will try and contact a recruiter might be bad timing on my part, will find out though.
