Prime's school is a whole lot better than what your going to find somewhere else. I went through it, still am. They give you one on one instruction out on the road doing the actual job. You don't sit in a classroom for 3 weeks, then come back and test for your CDL....

I have to agree. As a Pre 9-11 GIBill participant, I saw plenty of tech schools stick it to the veteran.

The program is awesome when used at a community college or a reputable University... As I did myself.

Can't say the same for the "for profit" "technical colleges" and "online universities". They usually overcharge and overstate their programs. I had a couple buddies that had problems, used up their benefits and didn't have a whole lot to show for it.

Prime gives you up to 10 days out with an instructor to decide if the life is what you can live with... After that you it's 6 months pay back half, or complete a year and it's free.

BTW, I'm 100% sure instructors cannot have pets.

Fairly certain trainers can't have them either.

I happened to be in safety the morning a student let that tidbit out about his accident... The instructor was fired on the spot.

So if you are currently or aspire to, I would double check on that aspect of the current policy... These things do change on occasion.

I would have to wait a year to become an instructor anyway.... and I don't have enough experience to train anyone. Before I can teach someone else, I have to know exactly what I'm doin

Did you go to a school in Washington. I am looking at going to Bates College in Tacoma, Wa which is a 3 month program

No, I was trained at Prime.

What I am saying is I went to college. Real course work towards a BA... Which I hope to finish someday. With the GIBill I was able to pay for classes, books and with a part time job I was able to take a full course load and live comfortably without too much stress.

This Bates program might be good, but in the end you are paying almost $6k (or using that much in benefits)... From what I gather at their website.

The cautionary tale is my buddy went for a technical degree "in 18 months" from a school you see advertised on TV all the time. The school used all his benefits, and required him to take loans also just so he could eat and pay rent. He fell behind, the course work wasn't conducive to working a job even part time... He got a tough luck attitude from the school when he wanted to take a brake, gather himself up for a semester and build up his bank account so he could finish.

Now he's got loans to pay... He no longer gets a tax return as the VA is recouping their money.

The VA tells you if you don't complete the course... Or at a regular college you don't maintain a "c" avg, maintain a full credit load (or half, depending on how much money you take) they come after you for the money.. And they dont give you anymore until you are in good standing.

I guess if I was a company driver, my Sheltie would have to go on a diet. He is around 37 pounds! But he stays home anyway... too active a dog for the truck. Poms and Chihuauas are popular as long as they to get stick in a vent somewhere!
Yes, neither trainers nor instructors can have pets. Makes sense. When I trained (yes, at Prime, a long time ago) my instructor had a Boxer in the truck (the dog, not the Senator... and the dog behaved much better). It was VERY crowded!

That school does have something going for it if they have you drive around town... In Tacoma

    Varied terrain. Hills and mountains.

I had a trainer that went to school in Chicago. He couldn't pull a hill to save his life the first couple weeks.

As an alum of the Prime training program - a long time ago - I have always been glad I went that way. Much better to learn on the road than in a parking lot or an old abandoned airfield! You also get a feel for the job, since you are being trained while the instructor is doing the business. Excellent program!
