I just turned my truck in this week. If you go to Prime do not lease a truck it is flat out a ripoff and theres no way anyone can honestly defend it. If your looking for a company job then go for it. Just don't lease.
At the risk of pissing a lot of people off, it is my opinion that leasing is a rip-off no matter what company you're driving for. I'm sure there are problaby some good lease deals out there somewhere, but I haven't found any yet. When you lease you are running a business, and it's a poor business to get into if you ask me. If you really sit down and crunch the numbers, lease operators usually make no more or only slightly more than company drivers (note: I bolded "usually" as there are exceptions), and many times lease operators find themselves going deep into debt. It's true that some lease operators make more money, but more often than not, lease operators make roughly the same amount with a ton more headaches and several lose their shirts over it. I'm not being specific towards Prime or any other company here, just as a whole. If you want your own truck, drive company for a while and save your pennies. You can get some killer deals on used trucks these days. Finding a truck from 2004 with 600-700k miles on it for $18,000 is rediculously easy to come by. Sure, it's an older truck than you'd get with a lease, but if you run this like a business, crunch those numbers. You could rebuild the engine on that used truck 5 times over and still come out better than most lease deals. Just my .02cpm.
And where are all the companies that will sign you on with a 5 year old 800,000 mile truck in need to an overhaul with no warranty left ( reason there for sale in the $14 - 18,000.00 range ) The reason so many jump at the LEASE deals ( not just at PRIME ) is they have no $ , no way of making or saving any $ , poor credit and the 500 HP NO $ DOWN , NO CREDIT CHECK is what they THINK they want, then they find out they have to really work at it.
they must have just started this requirement...LOL. I went through in Jan of 08 and it had nothing to do with ducks or squatting.
Way to go digging up an old thread... Yes you wil have to squat and duck walk. I went through March 08 and dont remember doing it... It was part of the exam to renew my DOT Physical last month (March '10)... done by the doc who runs the clinic at Prime, and who also does all the inbound physicals. How's your weight...neck size etc?.. you know about the BMI deal? Dont know what the deal is for re-hires... but no-go for new-hires (or should I say no-hires). Current employees have the luxury of taking a sleep study test if they are over the limit and getting a CPAP machine if they are diagnosed... Very closely monitored usage on the road. Daily phone calls the first week, weekly after, and you have to turn in the CPAP memory card once a month for analysis... anything under 4.7 hours of use per night gets your DOT physical card yanked.
the recruiter tabitha smith told me that around BMI of around 38+ is where they are getting iffy.....im 30 so she said im good to go
oh yea she told me 3 days ago when i talked to her that unless youre around 37, 38, 39 they dont even blink an eye
sorry to just jump in. but im trying to get an orientation set up with them this week. I'm right at 38. Will they just not look at me because of that? Or do I still have a chance, or is it case by case?
