So i guess i could be a little more descriptive being that I have nothing but time right now. SO on my first driving shift I drove through PA to a truck T/S at exit 4 in New Jersey off of 80, no hiccups. trainer drove for 3 hours into Brooklyn where we dropped first a couple of ac units off, then dropped the rest at New Jersey. Got dispatched a load outtah Phily to St Louis, only a 850mile run, which really sucks for a team run on a weekend. Trainer finished up his 14 hours just outside of New Jersey. So I drove from New Jersey to Indiana. While passing through columbus Ohio the truck just died on me while cruising along at 56 mph, so I allowed the truck to coast along till I was able to find a safe place to pull onto the shoulder of the road. I couldnt get my trainer to wake up for nothing, so I finally had to get up and shake him a bit. Looks like the DPF filter was clogged up, So I let the truck sit for a few minutes and it started right up, all warning lights went off. So i just continued driving with no futher problems after that. Got to my 9 hour mark and I felt that if i kept driving i would become a hazard to not only myself but to others on the road so I pulled over at Rest area just outside of Indianapolis. I hadnt slept in almost 36 hours, was my first trip and I didnt want to miss anything. Huge learning lesson here. (sleep when your supposed to) Anyways, I told my trainer I was wiped out and I crawled into the top rack and slept for 12 hours. My trainer finished his 10 then drove 5 more hours to get us where we are sitting now. So other then that, Im loving the job so far, just need to stay focused and take every advantage i can to make sure I get the sleep my body needs.

no, as i said, he finished his 10 hour reset, then drove the rest of the way. No rules being broke here.

no worries, I should have been more descriptive maybe.

I force my guys to bed. If there is something they really need to see I will wake them or have them stay up. But I dont keep them out of bed for one minute longer than needed to show them something important for their training.
I tell my trainees to get off their phones, computers, dvds etc. and go to sleep.
I may have to accept the fact that they are tired and for safety reasons park the truck... but if they were up, screwing around while I was driving my shift and they cant do their shift, then we have a problem.garciamag Thanks this. -

I dont do instructing. Ive thought about it, but I dont have the patience.
I do train. In fact Im probably taking on a trainee after my week off in California.
I havent had a trainee for almost 10 months. Last year I had a lot going on with weddings, funerals and a trip to Europe.
I typically like to be 100 percent available to run miles for a trainee. Basically I schedule my hometime when he wants to go home.
I may wait till the beginning of March... any trainee I take before then will have to take time off at the end of Feb when I go to FL for the Daytona 500. Im not springing for a free trip in Orlando. So if he wants to collect his $600 by staying on the truck, its either he books a hotel himself or he sits in the truck for 4 days at Prime Floral in Pierson with a bathroom, shower, snack machine and water cooler for ammenities. -
i live about 15mins from the t/s in wildwood Exit 329 off I-75
