Dunno why people "stock up" on the slightest word of snow around here.

It snows in winter in New England. It's always snowed here and hopefully always will, even with climate change afoot. Yet people act like every snow event is a blizzard of the ages. I can't quite figure that one out yet and I've lived here about half my life by now.

Anyway, I'm going to trust all is well tornado-wise in Springfield? Everyone still standing? Per Weather Channel, looks like a few tornadoes did spawn around MO.

The smith system is a defensive driver training program. Basically it teaches you how to scan your sorroundings and how to leave yourself an out. 4 videos, then off to the sim lab for some training situations. All upgraders have to take a skills driving test, basically weaving in and out of trucks and trailers at a busy terminal area. One straight back, and one alley dock. Scenario must be completed in less then 10 min. The rest of upgrade is mainly the same orientation classes we all go through prior to PSD and TNT training. A few new classes, but thats about it.

You haven't driven across Elk Mountain on I-80 in white out with 45 mph+ winds. That would be a challenge even in a car. It ain't the light snow you get in Maine:biggrin_25510:

Congrats MONT!! Hard part is over, except for staying awake and inspecting your truck.

I80 over Elk Mountain does suck when its nasty out. Where I live they mention it might could possibly maybe snow, everyone panics.

Missouri is becoming tornado alley. Two major hits in 2 years. I was there for the one that hit Joplin. Was in orientation that week...

    It's not MO. It's the I-44 corridor.

Yeah, tornados in or near Springfield are nothing new. When I arrived in March 08 the shuttle driver made a detour to show us where in town a tornado hit a couple weeks before. In addition they had tarps on some of the campus Inn roofs from damage. By the time I returned for test out they were wrapping up installation of new roof on one building.

We had three warnings while on the pad in one week where we had to go down in the basement.

The fleet gets a couple messages a year where the staff says "Adios" as everyone in the terminal piles into the basement until the all clear signal is sounded.
