Yep, been flatbed since day 1
-
What are the pro's & con's between, Fb & Reefer?
One, I am hoping to be in the Northeast, BUt the only diff i see, is FB gets a Full size, Reefer, there is a choice (sort of) & pay diff?
Anything else? -
In the flatbed division we usually don't have a whole lot of time sitting around waiting for shippers or receivers. Alot of times we go directly to a jobsite, which means we get to see more sights then a reefer guy. We take our trucks off road. More physically demanding in flatbed, but not as bad as a lot if people like to make it out to be. We hardly ever have to back into a dock. But best pro is definitely the full size trucks, although, I have seen lightweight flatbed trucks.

Reefer drivers only get a choice of trucks if they are lease. If your a company driver u will definitely get a lightweight. Although the reefer guys with a lightweight get a 5 cpm bonus.

- Mt Hood on a winter morning.
- Bald Eagle eye-locked not 30 feet from me.
- Two young eagles playing chase me, 20 feet from me.
- Five wolves crossing the road in front of me.
- Clark river near Missoula on a frozen morning.
- Moose watching traffic in Maine.
- Snow higher than the roof of your tractor beside the road in Maine.
To name a few. Until you've driven the roads I have, you might not want to assume that we don't see "sights."
OTOH, I don't have to tarp in winter weather... not too much chance I'm going to fall off of the top of a tall load. So, how is ORD's back doing??
Yeah, don't have to back into docks. Ever blind-side into an enclosed dock about 4" wider than the open doors of your trailer off of a busy street? Betcha can't.
How about running a hot-shot load with maybe an hour to spare load to unload? Can you do split sleeper berth rules? Can you hack the pace?
You guys do a different job than we do, but don't assume that its any better than what we do. At least until you've run it a few more years than just the couple of months you spent on a team trainer's truck. -
Man o dear! I wasn't trying to portray flatbed guys better then reefer. Take a chill pill bud. All I was saying, during my training time I traveled up dirt roads for miles and miles that reefer guys probably won't ever do. I have nothing but respect for all the divisions here.
