Thanks for all of your feedback. I've already got my cdl and i've had it for 4 yrs, i work for coca cola delivering to stores. Ive got some driving experience, but i guess otr experience means 5 or more states and i have only done 3. I called Marten transport about a few weeks ago because it was actually my first choice and the computer said 6 months otr experience, so i called to ask them what they meant by otr experience and the recruiter told me 5 or more states. SO ALL IN ALL, that means im going to have to go through some company training. My second choice was Stevens, but honestly I havent called anymore companies yet. I just heard that Stevens won't let you take the truck home and that they had to drop it in El Paso. I just really know more about that. And then Prime is my third, but again their training is way too long for me. Any more replys would help a lot. Thank You guys for all of your feedback

I know its your third choice but the recruiter can get a judgement from safety and knock the training miles down to 40k or maybe even 20k.

We drop our trailers at participating customers and drop yards and take our

    tractors home.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

U2, as always, great and plentiful information on Prime. It looks like I will be going back there, as we will have to move from Omaha soon and I will have to leave my locally based company. I am sure they will ask me to be a trainer... so probably joining you out there in a few months. :biggrin_25514:

Living in TX, you have a lot of options. Those options are narrowed down greatly if you are looking for a company that will train you from the ground up, including helping you get your CDL. If that's your situation, I'd recommend calling the local job service office and see if they have some sort of training/retraining program available. Another option is a local community college to get your CDL and then there's the private CDL schools like Roadmaster. They're expensive but you're not obligated to any one company.

If you go with one of the latter options, once you have your CDL then you'll have many options other than Stevens or Prime.

If, on the other hand, you need a paid training/CDL program I am pretty sure that Roehl has a program to help you get your CDL. I'd go with Roehl 8 days a week before the other two mentioned. There may be other companies out there that offer training too but can't think of any off the top of my head.

Another idea-go down to the local truck stop and hang out by the fuel island and talk to drivers coming through there.

It appears that you're looking for a reefer job. If you really want to go that route then May Trucking would be a good option if you can get your CDL first. They hire new graduates but don't provide CDL training. That's who I started with and I was out on my own in 12 days. Not saying that that's advisable for everyone but it worked out fine for me.

    GL whatever you do.
