Prime: Orientation and Training?

ironpony how long have u been working for prime? did u learn to drive through them?

 

Going on 2 years now. Got my CDL through a third-party school, Sage Technical - I'd recommend them if that's what you want to do.

IMO, Primes instruction is top-notch as well. Their approach gives you more time behind the wheel than a school can afford - after all the whole deal on the driving schools is to give you enough to get past the CDL driving skills test. Prime then gives you a long apprenticeship in a working truck before throwing you in the deep end. I'd say the best part is you're paid very well considering what the industry norm is during training, and you're not obligated to drive for the rest of your life for them in lieu of paying back the tuition.

 

Tylenol PM is more than just an antihistimine... there is some sort of mild sedative in it. I've "heard" that it will get you in trouble - thus the recommendation that BrutusK checks with the company doc. If he pees hot during training, he's gone. No second chance.

What's your point halfburn? If you lease on with a carrier, you get to follow their rules. Primes rules are you get your freight from them. Most of the guys leasing with Prime don't have 19 years of experience, and wouldn't know where to get their freight from, or how to be an owner-op. It's training so you can go out and be a successful owner op with 19 years of experience.

It is Benadryl and Tylenol. I have used simply sleep in the past which is the same thing minus the tylenol.

Back in Sprimo for my upgrade. Took the Smith System and did my upgrade test yesterday. Both are done on the simulator now, and so is the driving test for new hires. Simulator is nothing to be worried about. In fact, it's probably easier than driving a real truck. But don't try to "double-clutch" on it. Just float the gears, much easier and they don't care.

I'm supposed to go back this afternoon to get my packet for company driver orientation. Not sure if orientation is this afternoon, tomorrow, or what. Can't get any real answers for that. But anyway, I'm supposed to be heading out on Friday, so hopefully I'll get my truck soon!

Oh, and there are a TON of new hires here. The new hire orientation class is busting at the seams, not a seat left. But I had no problem getting a room at the Inn.

 

Diphenhydramine HCl is an agent that makes you drowsey... Although DOT doesnt test for it, I cant imagine a trucking company approving of its use...

especially when you use it against the advice of the instructions...

 

It also helps with itchy watery eyes. Ever tried to drive with itchy, watery eyes?

I wasn't addressing whether or not a company approves it's use. I was addressing the false information about it containing a mild sedative that will make you fail a urinalysis.
(Like the government would allow people to use a mild sedative over the counter lol )

If you wish to assume that trucking companies forbid its use I'm cool with that.

 

Someone posted a list from SNI that had it on there... I havent been able to find it again.

I dont want to see anyone get "hemmed up" for something so simple...
