Just curious. What happens if you don't pass the upgrade?

LOL depends on if you fail the driving test. You pull that trailer over a light pole during your upgrade and you can guarantee the company will send you home on the spot. Most of the time you will get a written test first. If you fail a written test or not enough correct manuevers, most companies will cycle you back into a truck for more training.

If you were doing most of the driving, and you really worked on the manuevers, you should have no problem. Some testers you can ask them to sit inbehind if your really nervous.

    JimTheHut Thanks this.

They give you a couple of chances. After 4-to-5 months of driving with a trainer, if you can't pass a simple driving skills test you shouldn't be driving a CMV. As I understand it, the upgrade process has changed a bit since I took mine. At that time there wasn't any "written" test. You got in the truck ran it through the cones, backed into a "dock" - done. Some classes, and go get a tractor and a load.

    DirtySideDown and JimTheHut Thank this.

After the Thanksgiving Holiday, you need to get on the horn and get a hold of your recruiter. Keep calling and be persistent until you get a hold of her.

It pays to be persistent (but still polite)... if nothing else, it shows them that you are motivated and serious about wanting to drive for them. If you have to, leave a message saying just that and to please call you back so you can get the ball rolling.

    Good luck.

I have tried four times now and I can not get a return telephone call.
I will keep trying for a while, but I will not loose any sleep if they do not have the courtesy to return my call. BTW, I had been approved for training. Just trying to finalize everything.

It doesn't matter how hard you run if a company runs the freight bill through a sham broker and 2$ a mile freight becomes $1 a mile to the truck. You can run as hard as you want and you won't get ahead making .25 a mile. I am still waiting to hear someone that has done O/O or lease with a company say they have seen the actual freight bill from the shipper.
