I have a family at home as well (wife and daughter) and yea it sucks being away from them. I would say that at least a cell phone is imperative in staying in touch with them.

Yeah... first, grow up. You were LIED to???? Oh my! Get real. Every employer on the planet will tell you what you want to hear.
Second, you want to be home with the family??? Go apply at McDonalds. -

Hey guys, I called my recruiter today. She said that she is waiting on my verification of work history. I was wonderiing how do they check your work history and once they get the work history. how long should it take before I get shipped off to Springfield to start training. Because I need to start making money so i can catch up on bills.
-
Well, it depends on how convoluted your work history is. They check on it by calling the references you cited, or sending them a fax/email form to fill out. Hope you didn't stretch the truth!
As far as earning money goes, you don't until you get your CDL. Once you are in training status as an employee, then you start getting paid. -
Heck with that. There are companies that get you home on weekends. I am not married to a truck or company. I do have a life outside of a truck.Roadmedic Thanks this.
-
Be honest... how many trucking companies offer weekends off... especially to a newbie...
Do your time, get your experiance, find a better company -
I know of 3 or 4 off the top of my head. A couple flat gigs and one box.
-
You have to watch some of these company's to. for instance Landair had an add in the paper with the promise of home time every weekend, so i took the offer and in there contract was nothing about being home every week so before i signed i made them add it to the contract and out of 6 months i was home only 3 weekends so i was able to quit because they broke the contract

Prime has been very realistic with my class(here in Springfield now)about hometime. every 4 weeks seems to be the average...maybe sooner but don't think it will happen if you ask often. Prevailing wisdom here seems to be if you give them a range of when you would like to be home and don't pin them with a specific date, then the fleet manager will do his best to get you freight in your home area. Just don't call on Wed saying I need to be home this weekend and then be pissed when it doesn't happen. They are fine with having you home on specific dates...but you must give your FM adequate notice to work with.
