Ive picked up potatoes just North of Fargo, just across the MN state line... Freight going from Wisconsin or Minnesota to Spokane or Seattle are typically routed this way... or vice versa. Its only when freight is coming/going from Portland, OR or Southern WA that you eventually end up on I84-80 for the East/West routing.

Well, first you may have noted that I'm a little opinionated... :biggrin_25523:

And, second, when I get tired I loose my patience with obvious BS.

I like where I'm working at, and they have treated me fairly. I have a good relationship with my dispatcher, and as a team, we work very well together. When people who never have worked at Prime start running their mouths about the company, I do tend to get a "little hot under the collar" so to speak, but that's mainly because of the untruths that are spread around. I find that most folks who have an axe to grind with Prime generally are blaming Prime for many of the troubles they caused themselves. These are generalizations, and aren't always the case. That being said, I do try to get along, and find that I can in most cases. I've also found that it's best for me to stay out of the political discussions here.

Thank-you sir! I also am not a recruiter, nor am I trying to score on referall fees. Never have gotten any. I will say that the results and satifaction you might receive from any job or situation is primarily from what you make of it.

There's been a little bump up in freight volume for the last month or so, but this is when there should be a steep upswing, and everyone gets real busy. So, no, the economy certainly hasn't turned around. Regionally, there are places that are really humming along well - Charlotte NC and the Miami area come to mind. And there are complete economic disaster areas like the OH-MI-IN region. There are very few loads coming out of this region, yet we haul food in - and certainly not at the volume we were doing last year. So the recession is patchy - depends on where you are. IMO, it is certainly worse than the recession in the mid-70's and early-80's.

My own statistics show that I'm down 16% on miles from last year at this time - mostly because of the slows in January and February. Money is about the same due to pay raises, and the introduction of our fuel bonus.

    Baack Thanks this.

If you live in the NE and do NE regional, yeah its possible to be home every week - if you just get assigned just to runs up there. That's harder to do as a company driver because of forced dispatch. I know a couple of LOs (and there's probably more) who do that and get home frequently. If you happen to live near the I90/I91/I95 corredor for instance, then yeah, you're going to be able to stop at home - probably under load - and still get your job done. Let's say you live up in Maine, near say Bangor. Then it's alot less likely - you'd need to be in the middle of the Boston - Washington mess for that to work well.

Otherwise, yeah. Probably going to be out a month before you get home. Now as far as being lied to? I have no idea what was said in your conversation with the Pittston recruiter, and only you do. I think a lot of people take what the recruiters say, and put what they want to hear into the recruiters words - whether that's really there or not. In my own experience, I can say the recruiters didn't lie to me - they were straight up with the whole deal. It's their job to sell you on driving with Prime, and you know how salespeople are - if you don't, do I have one sweet deal for you on a Used Truck?!! You betcha I do!

If you decide to go to orientation, you might want to speak to Don Lacey about this - honestly, I think you were told the truth by both recruiters. It's a good place to get enough experience so that you can drive for a company that just does business in the NE - if that's your desire. Also, you might want to make sure they understand you want to be dispatched out of Pittston - they do the NE regional thing out of there. It's also true that we all get dispatched out of the same pool of freight, so it's not necessary just to run out of Pittston.

I have to agree with IP... The best I have heard anyone ever say for a COMPANY driver is 3 weeks out 3 days at home. That was from my Fleet Manager.

Ive never tested this because I like to stay out 5-8 weeks. Ive done 4 weeks between hometime.

Opportunities for unscheduled hometime have a lot to do where you live.
