Get yourself a 2010 Truckstop Guide (the large one) - and the little pocket guide isn't a bad deal either. Got a new one at one of the Bosselman Pilots last night. Helps in finding parking and other services... especially trailer washouts that aren't in our network.
There's a Truckomat truckstop off of I94 (exit 73 - New Holland) just north of I80 that doesn't charge for parking. They have a washout, and there's a restaurant within walking distance. There's a couple of truckstops at the I88/I39 junction in Rochelle that don't charge, and also just north of the WI line on I39 and I94. Staging into the Chicago area from one of these outlying areas is always a good plan.
Traffic in Chicago isn't bad as long as you avoid the morning and evening rushes. Definitely pay attention to channel 19... frequently have avoided major clusters by being alerted to accidents in time to take an alternate route.
Another useful thing is "The Next Exit" - a guide for what's within 3 miles of all the exits on interstates. I usually find them at Flying J locations. Haven't seen the new edition out yet. They also get them at the company store from time to time.

I asked the question a couple of times because there was no reference to the time frame as to when her husband went through the training.
Since he was fresh out of training I took that as an opportunity to see if the policy had changed.
Maybe being away from home and my family for four straight months is not a big thing to you. I seem to recall that you mentioned that you are single and it does not matter. If my asking a couple of times bothers anyone, well no one makes you read the posts.
The ones who did answer it without adding their two cents worth of criticism, it was much appreciated
To me it does not seem like a very professional attitude for experienced truck drivers to always come back with, if you do not like it to do something else for a living.
I have read as you have rebuked others on this site for bashing Prime. I was not bashing Prime, only trying to make sure that I got the correct information.
I do not make major decisions in my life based on what one person's opinion would be. If I did that I would have listened to all of the negative there is on this site on Prime. I went the extra mile to listen to other people who have had positive things to say about the company.
So I am comfortable with the information that I received and I thank all that took the time to help me out and I deeply apologize to all of you who had to endure me asking the question three times. I know you will never regain those lost seconds, but hopefully you will find it in your hearts to forgive me!
Merry Christmas!DirtySideDown Thanks this. -
That's a crock. I posted a note to you 4 days ago about it. Perhaps this will jog your memory???http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/prime/78715-ask-your-questions-about-prime-inc-13.html#post1145395
I've never said that he was fresh out of training. Again, refer to the link I posted above so you can refresh your memory.
I would sure hope not. I would want the facts and not opinions.

Is PRIME paperless now?
-
Talked to my recruiter last week and he said that Prime is going paperless and that's what I will be training on. -
Yes, they are beginning to switch everyone over. All trainers are already, or will soon be on e-logs. Anybody coming through orientation will be on e-logs. All company drivers are already, or will soon be switched over as well. I switched to e-logs about a month ago. Not sure about the lease side, but it sounds like the plan is to switch over the entire company over time.

You need the newer QualComm terminal that has voice capability. My board was the first to start the switch (test case) and I'm still doing funny papers. I have an old terminal and won't go to elogs until my truck is retired. The last "official" word I had was that the entire fleet will be on elogs by next summer at the latest (subject to change at any moment!)
-
My CDL instructor (friend of mine) over there said they have a fleet of company truck testing the paperless log's. Prime's CDL training start to finish is awsome, best out there yet but after I went solo all was good for a few months then started going south so I left.

I think it's fair to say the "testing" is over. They've decided to go paperless, and are now transitioning the entire company over. U2 was one of the testers for the system and at one time they stated it was only a test fleet to see if they want to move that direction. That test is done. They are switching.
