Profit margins on loads are higher in tanker. $1.50 per mile is a low paying load in tanker. You see $2-3 per miles loads in tanker a lot. Why do you think we're the only division getting paid a lower percentage of line haul? If you run hard and that means just staying out on the road in tanker. You can make six figures in tanker running a little over 2k miles a week.

Again I'm just sharing my experience and what I have seen. Make your own choices. Your experience may be different.

Those are averages, and that's important. We don't get paid on a per-mile basis, but percentage of linehaul, fuel surcharge and accessorials. You're take-home is after you pay the bills... and the way you operate your business has a huge effect on what your net is. The previous poster who mentioned the woes of another LO can be traced directly to this; do a good job of minimizing costs, and you're in the clover. Do a piss poor job, and you will be on a steady diet of ramyen noodles.

That's actually a good thing. The LO has a direct influence on his or her success here. That's why I stress to everyone that they get a couple or three years of experience on the company side first.

    Update:

My classes are done for today. Remember those training books/videos I was talking about? Turns out they already have a video series teaching everything you need to know to drive and work in Tanker Division. The surge and everything, they have a video for it already. They just don't show it until after you finish your TnT for some reason. You have a quiz on it to make sure you know and that goes in your file. After that they have another class on the finer points of being a tanker yanker for Prime. They also go over your quiz with you to make sure you know it.

All I have left is the Smith System class and my lease class. Everybody teaches the Smith System that I've worked for so I'll just be sharing the lease info as I get it. Probably the same stuff IP is always talking about. I'm off until Sunday!

    Hi everybody!

My update is done. The Upgrade Process:

Smith System Class w/ Driving Skill Test (On simulator)
    6 Normal Classes
20 Computer Training Modules (19 if you are company)
    Passport Application (Recommended)
    Aflac (Optional)

Tanker is a small fleet. I already had my FM, Road Assist, Log Auditor and Payroll contact information.

I will get my permit book and equipment when I get your truck. (No account to charge equipment to with out a truck.) The truck I want will be ready for me to look it over tomorrow.

I will still be answering questions here but my leasing experience thread will be up after I get my truck set up. I love you guys but business first.

If want to put my name on an application just put down GunMetal345. It's also my handle in the system here.

Thanks for reading. I hope it helped you.

    GunMetal345 out!

P.S. This is the most comprehensive training I have ever had in trucking. Everything you need to know to be successful as a lease or company driver is given to you in the classes. You have to pass each test with a score of 100% before you can upgrade. Those two idiot trainers were just that. Two idiots that don't want to be as profitable as possible. The first guy will need to retraining before he can train again and that's from the company and the head of safety. (Yes, I went all the way up the chain on that guy. Nobody deserves to go through that. I had to make sure he won't act a fool with anybody else.)

Thanks for the thread I enjoyed it. I can't wait to see how your lease goes. I am happy someone can make it work. Glad you get to upgrade and when you get your truck picked out post a pic and the number of it. Have a great day.

FYI..when pumping watch the rpm that you're using..the thicker the product the lower you want your rpms.

You will blow pump seals with higher rpm on a heavy product.

As for heat in transit..remember in summer months you don't have to use heat as much.
The tanks are insulated and will only lose 2degrees per 24hours.

    Keep on yanking!
