There are certain engines of the modern type which includes a small manually operated pump near the fuel filters. It is used when fresh fuel is reintroduced into the tanks. and meant to fill the filters prior to cranking. after running out of fuel. It usually takes about 20 minutes if you hustle quickly to get your engine back up and running.

This is one area where Cummins has it on lockdown. Their low side electric lift pumps are top notch and the system is self bleeding. No muss, no fuss. Why nobody else does this is beyond me.rabbiporkchop and x1Heavy Thank this. -

Before the Paccar MX, I just used a garden sprayer with a compucheck fitting. the only engine I used it on for basic filter changes was theDD 13/15 engines, they took a lot of pumps to prime. Other than that, it was mainly for when I R&R'd injectors or fuel lines, to get a fast start (like after an in-frame).
Once the MX engines came out and were/are a pain to prime without getting engine faults, I got a Mityvac MV7430.
