Considering how cheap printers and ink are compared to laser. Not to mention ink is more available. I don't see any cheapness or benefits to having laser. Unless maybe an owner operator who prints more then the standard driver. A black and white cartridge would last me 2 months and 60 days of logs plus a few permits. a 500 paper package would last me a year. My printer lasted 6 years and still works. Using a standard Walmart 150 watt invertor.

    Squarewave inverter...junk.
$2500.00 for a 2500 watt pure sinewave inverter..

Sounds like the printer doesn't like the modified sine wave from the inverter. If you get a true sine wave inverter bet you won't have the same problem

    rabbiporkchop and DDlighttruck Thank this.

Pure sine wave investors are to expensive. Add the cost of a Lasor printer. Walmart sells 140 watt invertors for $20. Printers for $40. And they work just fine.

They just don't last as long with the square wave inverter

My on sale for $30 printer from best buy lasted the entire 6 years I was OTR. And still works. Had to buy one printer cable during that time.

Replaced the Walmart 140 watt invertor 3 times.

    rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

these people have good inverters at really good prices.
I have a 3000 watt unit from them. A modified sine wave one. works solid and never had a problem.
They offer both modified and pure sine wave units.

You'll need a pure sine wave inverter. Most electronics these days use what's known as a 'switching power supply', which is a fancy name for an inverter. So you're trying to run an inverter from the output of another inverter that's not putting out the clean sine wave that the equipment is expecting to see. So it just shuts down.

Pure sine wave inverters are a bit more expensive, but not prohibitively so.

Also, IMO the biggest advantage of a laser printer is that the print won't disappear when you're walking in the rain with your paperwork.

Every border crossing needs a piece of paper to cross. It's annoying to find the right fax number, stop at a TS to hopefully get the fax quickly, hope it was sent to the right number, etc

And without getting too personal, there has been a family event recently where being able to print, sign and scan documents has been neccessary. I don't know where to go in the USA for self serve printing. And it can't always wait until I'm home.

I am slowly learning some alternative technology to e-sign stuff.
