You need a big inverter for a laser printer, while the printer is warming up it draws a lot of power. As far as ink, how much to you print of the road? My ink last about 4 to 6 months.

True Mark, If You only print every now and then a laser is not for you. The Customer who uses this setup (Howdy: RoadTug!) is a Independent who hauls oversize & overweight loads. He switched after using a ton of ink printing all his form out of his truck on the road. Don't know the size of his inverter, But his Rigs warning light looks like Christmas & July 4
You can research the mobile hp printer price here:

I use a hp4400, It's about $100. I bought it because the paper loads from the front and its flat on top which makes it great for storage

Getting a wireless printer will negate the need for a cord.
Friend of mine says he can print from his laptop sitting in his driveway. (printer in the house) -
Since you will be printing two logs every day (your carrier will want one), shop by the price of ink/toner, not the price of the printer.
I like the Brother laser printers. 2600 pages on one toner cartridge. -
We use the HP 4500. Similar to the 4400. Gives you scanner capability. Built in memory card reader that will print any pictures on card (good for accident reports, not that I have had one to fill out). Front panel closes up easily to keep dust out. Can run on 12 volt direct. 74XL is the largest cartridge it takes ( $26).
