Remember there are 2 options to explore before you sign that year away. Many technical schools offer driver training and there are many different sources for paying for it. Also you are NOT going to pay $6,000 for a CDL at a technical school.

You'll see the country all from the interstate. It's not as great as you imagine. Long hours, long weeks, it all adds up.

I am not sure why Swift has such a bad image. Yes, they have their screw ups. But a company as large as Swift is going to have some issues. Maybe I'm in a Swift safe area, but I rarely feel unsafe driving beside a Swift. I think their training is better than most. Their equipment seems to have gotten better. I have to give them credit. They at least know they're one of the slowest trucks out there, and they actually stay out of the way for the most part. As far as pay, I know they're cheap, but I don't think they're the cheapest. I believe you could survive on Swift wages is your expenses are low

I can't say the same for some other companies out there.

I agree. I dont quite understand why swift is viewed worse than any of the other big box training carriers. Schneider/ffe/usa insert any other large van/reefer carrier are just as bad, and many much worse.
