I have a 95 eagle with a n14-410 celect engine. I have a part time starting problem. I have checked batteries, connections, fuel filter, fuel pressure.inline fuses to ECM. Just wanting to know if can check for voltage @ ECM plugs? When cranking and wont start don't smoke or try to fire. Just thinking ECM has injectors shut off & won't build fuel pressure. When it decides to start nothing different is done. Anubody have any ideas?

The terminals inside the connectors can be easily damaged if you do not have the correct test pin. I don't recommend that for a diy'ers. If the ECM isn't powering up there are a couple of ways you check this without taking the connectors off. The "Check Engine" and "Stop Engine" lights are actually powered by the ECM. At key on the ECM will turn these lights on for about 2 secs for a bulb check. If the engine isn't starting, and you didn't see the lights this confirms the ECM isn't powering up for whatever reason. Another thing you can do is watch the tach while cranking. The engine cranks over at about 200 rpm. You should see that when cranking. If the tach is reading nothing, this is another indication the ECM isn't powering up. If the lights do come on, but still no rpm when cranking you could be looking at a failed or failing engine position sensor. The ECM will get its power from the batteries through a separate harness. Follow this harness from the batteries to the ECM. Check for it rubbed through anywhere. There are connectors at the battery, and another big one around the starter. Check these for any corrosion.

Thanks That's good info. I do have check engine & stop engine lights. So is there any way to check the engine position sensor? OR just change it out?

EPS is below acc drive and above the oil pump. If you unplug the EPS and ohm it out with a multi-meter you'll know if it's good or bad. It has four pins, the two inside pins are one circuit and the two outside pins are one circuit. I don't remember the correct ohms reading but if they aren't about the same from one circuit to the other then you have a sensor that has one bad circuit but it will run on the other circuit jus have an active fault for the bad one. Basically it's two sensors in one, one being a primary and one providing backup if one fails. Thats the best I can remember. Hope it helps.

Yes thanks it all helps. I will be testing that today. Just strang that it will run fine when you can ger it going. Btw never have had it die. The only codes i have had come up was 434 &115, 434 is a voltage code which makes me think a wire is not getting good connection. Will keep checking thanks foe all the help.

Purchase a Noid light from your local parts supplier then file the prongs to where it will your injector connector. With the light installed crank the engine, this will tell you if the ECM is sending power to the injectors.
I would also connect a pressure guage to the fuel pump and observe while cranking. There has to be 20psi. during cranking.

Have tested fuel pressure has 160 psi deadheaded,5 psi when cranking when won't start, 25 psi cranking when it just happens to start. That'e why I think somthing is shuting it off part time.

I know what the problem is. You have the programming for a Cummings engine, instead of a Cummins. That's your problem.

    Heavyd Thanks this.

fuel psi checked at pump, should be a quick connect fitting on pump housing in front of solenoid. I'd ohm out that solenoid on the pump. Sounds like it might be going bad.
