I understand you all, but how often do guys disappear when they are still owed $$ for 4,200 miles??? I've never employed anyone but I see it hard that a guy would cut and run and never show up for his job when he has a out a $1,000 check coming to him (maybe they do tho??)

I have seen guys that have left their wife and kids and taken off not to be heard from for awhile so I can see him skipping out on some pay coming to them. People do weird and stupid stuff everyday.

No, they will quit without telling you, then send their wives for their last check.

I will never own more trucks than I can drive myself ever again.

I've talked to team drivers at 4 pm that were leaving out at midnight for a delivery. The truck was at their house, and everything was fine. Two days later the company I was leased to called me wanting to know why the load wasn't delivered yet. This was before cell phones. I started calling their houses, no answer. I went to the house they parked the truck at, and there it sat, with the load on it and the reefer still running. No one would come to the door, and still wouldn't answer the phone.

I had to take a driver off my single axle furniture delivery truck to take that load to Florida. He ended up going to Ca from there, then up through Utah and back home. By the time he got back he had went into the pump on the 400 Cummins, turning it up to 2500 rpm, and I don't know how much rail pressure. The bad part is it was a Ryder rental, and they caught it because the turbo, exhaust manifold, and three feet of exhaust pipe, was blue from the heat. Ryder fired him from driving their trucks on the spot. I had to pay to have the pump repaired, and was responsible for the engine if anything happened to it in the next 30 days. This guy had signed a paper stating he would not mess with the trucks before he was allowed to drive the trucks I had leased. I fired him myself, and deducted the repairs from his check, which left him owing me.

He sent his wife to try to get his check, and I had to explain to his crying wife why he wasn't going to be paid. It's hard to do that when his wife and kids are staring at you. She understood, but it wasn't easy.

That is only a small part of what I went through with drivers. When I turned in my last Ryder truck, and sold what I owned, I felt like a ton had been lifted off my shoulders.

Well what do I do? Do I send out the check? Or do I keep it until he come to me?

Wait until him, or most likely someone he sends, comes for it. They may never show up. You don't have to send it to them, make them come after it. With the stress and problems they have caused you, don't make it easy for them to just quit and walk off without facing you.

That is no good on the guys just up and quitting...guess I was just raised better. If the owner was nice enough to give me a job, then I best be man enough to tell him i am quitting to his face. My grandfather told me that when i got my 1st job at Dairy Queen in 1993.

It's hard to play fair when 95% of the people you deal with are trying to schitz you. I have been there, done that, and lost a lot of money trying to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Now I am a cyncial old bastardo.

And then his phone died an didn't know my number. I don't know what to do, we what's to leave next Friday, but that's the day I send out checks, so idk if he just wants to get the money and run or what? So I'm ganna hold his check.
