Receiver said it’s not theirs and signed for the rest. I’d say it’s yours now and you can do whatever you want. Don’t let this become another case of a broker royally screwing a driver for free. Either get rid of it or get paid to redeliver. Soon.

If it was 3 skids short when you signed for it do you think they’d jump up and say “oh my idiot shipper forgot to put those on”, or do you think you’d be buying 3 skids of meat? If you’re a nice guy and let them have it you need to be paid for holding temp controlled, and you need to be paid for your time to go back. That’s still a way lighter stupid tax than 3 skids of box meat, and they should be happy to pay it.

Happens more than you may think. One of our drivers had two cases of cigarettes left. He didn't call anyone. Went to a truckstop and sold them to drivers for something like $6 a carton.
Many reefer drivers have an extra freezer at the house for damages and overages.
One time I had a case of smoked hams. Expensive hams, packaged in a wooden crate. Smoked hams don't have to stay refrigerated, so I put the case in the sleeper and took it home.
I learned to do that when I found out, most of the good stuff that's returned to the terminal is taken home by the office people.

I have a friend that drives reefer. This happens a bit. One time I had my entire fridge maxed out with grapes.

No good deed goes unpunished. No one knew about it and the customer already signed received in full. Now that you tell the broker he’s going to make you wait 2-3 days for a random shady customer probably in a residential area just for a few bucks extra that you might see half of if you’re lucky. I’ve been burned many times trying to do the right thing. If I can’t get the customer to just take it then it’s going to a food bank or I’m giving it to other drivers. It’s wrong I know and I hate myself for doing it but I’m not going to keep eating ####. As a company driver tho I’ll deal with it assuming I’m well compensated for the headache but running your own show seems like the brokers love to screw you over so they can go get bent.

It happens on RGN too.....not too long ago, One of my direct customers had a $250k CNC Machine come up missing. it was signed for and all that good stuff. Turns out, it was sold by someone that worked in the warehouse.

The best one I know of is when I hauled boats. One driver had an extra bass boat and took it home.
The factory was looking for a missing boat and asked all the drivers about it. They all said something like, "How could I not see an extra boat on the trailer?" Finally they figured some thief came on the property and took it. I don't think the driver ever used the boat. For the driver it was like revenge for being wronged in the past.
