They are going to have a hard time getting rid of that. Unless they get cut into something that does not resemble what they were.

Now if you tried to get The Crown Jewels or the Hope Diamond etc then that would be something. Saxony has a great history and was involved in securing freedoms previously that did not exist before 1500. Its unfortunate that they cheap out on the security for that kind of priceless treasure.

You have to respect professional thieves maybe even admire. In and out no harm to any persons and a big enough haul to not need to work again for quite some time.

Yeah. They are "priceless" because you can't offer them for sale on the open market. That $1.1 billion number is probably just the amount they were insured for. Most likely the gems will be cut down to make them unrecognizable and sold for a few cents on the dollar, which will still amount to a tidy sum for the thieves, but they aren't going to be billionaires.

    Dave_in_AZ and x1Heavy Thank this.

That’s the general idea. And that’s what the museum is concerned about!

I already wrote them off mentally. It's gone. There isnt that many people in the open market or even the underground market who would not understand what they are looking at uncut. They will be cut to beads and sold on the penny. So in my position, they might as well take the billion dollar check and be happy.

I think they might recover some of it if not all of it. The Germans will leave no stone unturned until they recover those jewels.

It's been noted that the jewels weren't even insured because of where they were.
