I have Progressive. Had no issues. My agent said my choices were 500 miles, or unlimited. I'm also a new MC#. Raised my premium 2k a year IIRC.

They must have changed it. When I first started I had a 100 mile radius. And also they said the radius should be where you operate the majority of your miles in and was air miles. Going outside of the radius wasn’t a problem as long as it wasn’t a regular thing.

How would Progressive have access to a Carrier's IFTA filings?

It’s standard procedure for the insurance to want your IFTA filings every time you renew. Helps them to have a more real and honest overview of what’s actually happening.

They change everything and anything at the drop of a hat. To me, it seems like they're not flexible at all when the market is in the Carrier's favor and very flexible when it isn't. So basically they gouge whenever they can.

I've never given my IFTA filings to any insurance company. Plenty have asked and I've always refused.

I'd say there are few insurance companies that will deal with new MC's, and they are taking quite a chance. Therefore, premiums are likely higher than others.

Mine is a bit over 15k after I went unlimited, but my truck doesn't have full coverage. .

Of course. Just like a newly licensed kid in his first car. But Progressive's commercial rates and rules are more stringent when the market is hot versus when it's not for Carriers. When lots are full of trucks and Carriers are shutting down left and right Progressive gets much more loose with new entrants.

Wonder how much cheaper your policy would be if you gave them the information? I’m sure they assume the worst.

Is there any particular reason you refuse? I never really took it as an intrusion of privacy. And that’s in an industry overrun with intrusions of privacy.

Good question. I've wondered myself. I thought about reducing it to a 500 mile radius because that's what I run predominantly but my agent said it wouldn't change my rate anyway so I haven't bothered. I do find it intrusive though. They're my taxes and personal to me.
