Are all A models PCTA? From reading your thread it seems like a lot of them suffer from cracked pistons if you give em too much juice?

He didn't say if it was the A model or not. Just "a 3406" @Stupidpete what model is it? B model theirs half a dozen guys on here that will point you in the right direction

You won’t ever get those power levels from a mechanical 3406 without spending silly amounts of money on the fuel system, stock fuel system can barely reach 800hp.

Electronic is much easier and more reliable with the proper build.

The early ones were PCTA. The later years were DITA. From my understanding the fuel pump and timing advance on the 3406A is not as good as the later engines in the 3406 line.

  5. What model is this 3406?

    By any chance a "B"

    3ZJ, 4MG, 5KJ, 7FB

Like mentioned above, hope you have a steady flow of cash. You ever thought about looking into a already built heavy haul Truck. That has been built for the purpose of 1000hp?

I'd start with a BXS or MXS engine, strip it down and start the build
    10R-7172 kits, these are 16:1
    332-7303 800hp cam
138-9381 spacer plate thiner the stock by just a little
    c18 800 hp injectors. ( i cant find the # right now)
    Full Tilt exh manifild
Big single turbo, I've had good luck with the PDI stage 2. PDI from ST George UT.

Why not just build a good stock engine, and crank up the fuel pump. Unless going to the drag strip. Plenty more than you’ll ever need. I recall marine injectors being popular. 3406b would outpull anything.Mechanical engine had a torque feel while accelerating. Unlike electronic e model

I recall c model had bigger rods and mains. Otherwise same engine available in mechanical or new peec electronic half breed. Recommended service on bearings 500 instead of 250 k on b models

Mains are the same on any 3400 series engine, rod bearings became wider with the C model, but the thing no one ever tells you is that the journal diameter got smaller.

Cranked mechanical's don't out pull anything, stock fuel pump is pretty limited, a stock electronic with a good tune will walk all over a factory pump mechanical.

    T800H and Rideandrepair Thank this.
