If I wanted to drive OTR for a couple of years, then move into a position in Management....would Swift or Schneider or something like that be a good idea?

    Thanks in advance.

    With experience in trucking,

it's doubtful you'd be hired for management !!!

Now if you had a degree in nuclear fission, ...........or better yet...

no degrees or experience in anything==you'd fit right in !!!

Most of the people in the offices at these companies have degrees. The rest of the bums are the mechanics and drivers! Remember this is what they told us in high school!

I do have a bachelors degree (not in business though). Been working in sales/customer service for 10 years. Bartend a little too. But want to drive a truck, if I like it I could keep doing it but also want the option to move into other parts of the company. fyi, Im 37. I don't live too far from Fontana and seems like Swift and Schneider are pretty big outfits out this way.

a former co-worker of mine only had an associates degree in 'liberal arts". when he filled out the drivers application, he was offered an office job instead.......but he too, would rather be driving.....so it IS very possible....

i say, if you want it, go for it....MORE money, sometimes (but not always) better benefits.

Bigrigjones, you would probably have an excellent chance at it then. Most of these trucking companies have there own sales departments. Also the ones that "flease" need salesman too! If I were you I would definitely go this route. There is a Central Refrigerated terminal in Fontana. Maybe something worth looking into. Hell, there are a ton of trucking companies in Fontana! You could work for a dealership too!

Don't want to be in sales or jack people up getting them into those leasing programs. At least not the way CR England and others seems to do it, seems to ruin quite a few people. (going on info from reading tons of forums of course)

    :)
