Propane delivery driver.

Not too many years ago I had the pleasure of filling several 3-4000 gal industrial tanks that were being used to run big ole heaters on drilling rigs. One particular cold snap I pumped close to 26,000 gal in just a couple days. It was quite a profitable winter

 

just so you know, you can load from a bobtail into the bulk tank, we have had to to it before to unload our trucks,

the farm from what I understand was full of pig ####, and wasn't accessible from the road, doubt there was one, so a bigger type transport tanker couldn't get there.

so they had to wade through the pig #### and fill it up with the smaller bobtail tanker.

I guess your right , typically they are, but when there isn't a road, do you think a transport tanker will risk getting in there and getting stuck? do you think the pig #### farmer will build a road? no that would make too much sense.

 

This thread brings back memories....I peddled propane off and on for close to 9 years.

 

LoL Bit by dogs, getting screamed at by customers because THEY use too much gas, getting screamed at by customers about the cost per gallon like I'm setting the price, getting stuck and shoveling my tail off before calling for a tow truck, getting stung by bees, having to go out at midnight then just get back home and back into bed then have to go out again, having a guy come out with a shotgun because I'm there to lock the tank off for non-payment, having to light pilots in some of the most disgusting homes I've ever seen.....Yeah, I have a million stories and don't miss the job at all. Not nearly enough $$ for all the nonsense.

 

Straight up, brother! Never understood why bees like the smell of propane. Had to add Mercaptan
to some non-odorized Butane a couple of times. Makes a skunk smell sweet!! Never again!

 

Propane delivery is a young mans job (the bobtails) you are slugging through mud, getting wet, and you have to watch out for dogs, bees and hornets. Then sometimes, you have to collect payment from dope-makers/dealers, since they dont have any credit, before you fill the tank.
(that's why they are out in the boonies, cooking up Methamphetamine or whatever the dope)

The residential tanks are almost always way in the back yard, so you need dog biscuits to make
friends with a dog, since the owners are not home usually. Cant get past the dog? Leave a note on the door and call dispatch and let them know that you couldn't make a drop, due to vicious dog.

Do not let yourself get bitten by a dog. Rotties are the worst. I gave up on them, so the tank owner
who was on route, had to pay a fee for non-delivery of product, plus paying full price for not having been filled due to a guard-dog, on route fee basis.

And it can be VERY seasonal work unless you live in a very cold climate. Transporting Propane in a full sized tanker to a bulk tank or a paved/gravel tank-farm is way easier and safer then hauling gasoline is, by far. No venting of the tank, no idiots smoking cigarettes, and a thick STEEL tank, not thin aluminum tanks,as you get when hauling gasoline or diesel fuel.

I've pulled both tankers and like the LPG tanker way more than a fuel tanker. There was a kid on the west side of ATL that shot a bottle rocket into the cab of a fuel truck some years back. It exploded in the cab and the driver rolled the truck. He's thankful it didn't go up in flames.

I've saw LPG tankers over turn several times and nothing has leaked or exploded. Some have even skidded and shot sparks for quite a distance, but still don't explode. And in the case of the first video. The tanker did what it was designed to do.
