I have a propane tent heater that uses the little bottles. (not legal)
I guess I will need to get a propane grill or stove that uses the little bottles. In an emergency it can be used to keep the cab warm!

I guess I would have gotten in to trouble back in the day. I had a 78 IH eagle I couldent keep the defrosters working never had the truck 8 years. So I would use my portable propane tourch you know the type for soldering water pipes. It worked great and give me a little extra heat, #### binder was always cold.

Yep, The cabs of the old trucks had so many holes in the floor boards for everything to run through even the cold air! Get in and start to duct tape openings closed! I loved it when that expanding foam came out!

I have carried a propane stove... in my sleeper... for over 20 years with no issues with DOT. The few inspectors that have seen the unit in my sleeper have not had any issues. There is no hazmat concerns. I use it quite frequently to heat water for coffee and such. Heaters would be another issue. Could a stove be construed as a heater? Possibly depending on how anal the DOT COP is. It probably is all in the wording. Example.... at one time, the Canadian border inspectors would ask about how would you defend yourself in your truck if broke in to. If you said you would use your tire thumper that you had next to the seat, it was now considered a weapon and you could be fined. If you gave some other response, the tire thumper was only considered a tool by the same inspector. It is all in how you deal with the situation when it comes up. Just don't ever say you use the propane stove for any kind of cab or sleeper heating... deny that it is ever used for that purpose.

Oxygen depletion is a concern with propane.
-
I have carried a propane grill for about a year now, it uses the disposible bottles. My old company was anti-propane regardless of teh use, new company has no policy on it. But my fridge died and I h avent found another that will fit in the spot for one in this truck. Course we rarely get the chance to use it anyway... every #### load is HOT HOT HOT.

I would be more concerned about the carbon monoxide.
-
I suppose Oxygen depletion or carbon monoxide would be an issue if you were using it for heat. For heating water or other cooking use, I am not sure you would have it on long enough to be an issue. But then, you could always do something original, like, roll down the window?
-
For cooking you would not have an issue with either...propane heaters typically do not create a lot of carbon monoxide and are relatively safe. Honda sells little fuel powered generators that are whisper quiet. You could secure one to your truck and run a power cord into to an electric heater. I'd go that route.

As long as you have a source of make up and combustion air for what the heater is using you should have no problems. Crack a couple of windows to let it breath and help exhaust car monox. If you should turn blue roll then down a little further.
