May sound cheap, but I made my husband a charcoal grill to take with him...a roasting pan, and and a bar-b-q grill to place on top...he just picks up the charcoal whenever he feels like havin grilled steak and potato for supper...works great!

That's what I have been considering. Met some drivers from MN that had little charcoal grill. We all pitched in and bought some steaks, chops, brats and they cooked a big meal on that little guy. Lined it with foil and dumped mess afterwards. Only thing I didn't like was they bought that charcoal soaked with lighter fluid and it tasted a little like it. Still very good grub and much better than any truck stop. We had lots of left overs as well. Munched on them next day.

Is it legal to have a 30lb (same size as a grill bottle) Propane bottle on the trailer?
I use it with a weed burner head to heat oil pans on machines that are cold soaked.
Thanks -
I would think if there was a problem you would have been made aware by now,....I'm thinking you probably get some attention going through the scales,...Given the nature of oversize stuff and the permits you deal with,...
But then again I might be very wrong,... -
I carry a Coleman propane stove and a small bbq under my bunk, for those time when I get stuck. I would rather cook my own food anyday over buffet food. Wednesday night I had a NY steak, corn on the cob and baked potato for dinner, all cooked while I was in the shower at Whiskey Petes.

If you can cook a NY strip on the BBQ while you shower....you are not cookin steak right...did you load it up with catsup when you returned? -
The regs say no portable heater. I like your idea but I guess if its portable, you can't use it.

Are there any laws (aside from company policies) that prohibits you from bringing along a small table-top grill? Sure would be nice to pick up some steaks from a Wal-Mart and grill 'em up for yourself rather than pay $12 or more at a restraunt...I can also imagine many other money-saving uses.

I've never heard a LAW against it, but from scuttlebutt at the smoke pit, some companies frown (or even fire) about it.
That said: I've seen a few tailgate parties at some truckstops on friday afternoons. Of course the standard safety rules apply, ie: use outdoors, disconnect gas bottle and store seperately, etc.
Best bet is to ask your carrier. -
I know for me the use of a 20 lbs tank is out. I deliver in Va and the tunnels in the Va beach area wants inspection at each bridge if you have a 20 lb tank. but they dont worry about the 16.4 disposable tanks
