So what are the pros and cons of being leased on to a company verses having your own authority? And the differences in running your business? Is it just the fact that the o/o that is leased out to a company gets there insurances etc covered and fuel advances?...
Sorry for the stupid questions I am new bare with me thanks guys.

By being leased to a good company you get many advantages like getting paid even if the carrier does not get paid some large fuel discounts almost instant cash flow and the main thing if a law suit happens the large carrier can afford a lot better lawyer than one man can. Remember justice has its price it just depends on how much justice you can afford. You also get the benefit of a sales force a permit office a safety officer and a whole lot of other things I can not think of at this time

There are no stupid questions!!
Pros:
Freight availability
fuel and parts discounts
lower start up costs
lower monthly overhead
Cons:
pay is usually lower
some treat you like a company truck
limited money making potential
those are a few. many people will have chime in as there is alot of different pros and cons!Support81 Thanks this. -
Ok so it's not a bad idea to try and get leased out..as long as its with the right company. What are some decent companies to hook up with? I am located on the east coast ..newengland area to be exact (Boston)
-
So basically you own the truck and the company owns you....until you get your own authority and pay up for everything and full price like insurances, fuel, parts ETC. you are stuck with them?
-
From my personal exp. if they have ALOT of company trucks they will treat you just like a Company truck. Schneider's choice program is decent so I hear. Then you have Landstar but what kinda trailer you gonna be pulling?
-
Well that's another thing, I have a few options dry van, possibly a reefer, dump body (running dirt, sand, salt locally), possibly flatbed ...I am trying to figure out if I can generate more revenue with my local contacts or if I should start running over the road I really don't want to be away from home weeks on end But I'll do what I got to do to stay afloat ..I'm just feeling out my options and making sure I have something to fall back on.
-
I thought you had an established customer base? Why would you lease to a company if you have direct contacts?losttrucker Thanks this.
-
Because I am from newengland and the contacts I have with in the companies that I would run for usually don't run threw the winter months and if they do it's very very selective and slow... So I am just trying to keep my options open and make sure I can always stay busy and have a fall back plan..losttrucker Thanks this.

Just so we are clear I am not driving YET nor have I purchased a truck YET...I am just getting started so I am doing and have done plenty of research..... O/O is 200% exactly what I want to do.
losttrucker Thanks this.
