    Heavy D,

I own a 2012 Prostar and saw where there were a lot of recalls, I am trying to find a site that I can run my VIN through that will give me the recalls for this particular truck. I tried to run it through NHTSA, but it tells me to check the VIN everytime and I am inputting the VIN correctly. My VIN is: 3HSDJSJR5CN582932. Thank you.

Call an international dealer, also ask about TSB’s, those are the important ones that no one ever mentions. You sometimes have to drag that TSB info out of them, literally.

Make sure you have the updated AC blower motor harness with the resistor, there was a TSB on that two years ago, I have the part number somewhere. Potential cab fire, the reason I’m mentioning it.

A TSB is a Technical Service Bulletin.

    • Rebecca, shows your truck has no recalls or bulletins. ECM calibration shows needs update. These software updates are important for the reliability and longevity of your truck. I would recommend getting this looked at. Only an International dealer can do this. It is possible it doesn't actually need one, just shows it does in the system, but they would have to plug into it to verify. Updates outside of warranty are not covered and customer pay.

    Heavy D,
My truck is currently in the shop because the AC was leaking at the evaporator coil in the sleeper, so the mechanic cut the tubing that went to the sleeper ac and blocked it off because the replacement cost of the evaporator was expensive. One thing we have noticed is that when going down the road, it blows hotter air, but once you slow down, the ac blows extremely cold. Do you have any suggestions? It is still in shop and the mechanic said he was going to try to get it to blow cold air all the time, should the pds of freon be lowered since the sleeper ac is now blocked off?
Also, the mechanic hooked the Snap-On Pro-Link Ultra computer up to it because the truck had idle shutdown every 5 mins and had him to update the restrictions because the truck would only run at 64 mph max. The mechanic claims that when he hooked this laptop up to the truck that he did the ECM, is that possible? The DPF filter also said 47%, the mechanic claimed the DPF filter is ok as long as it isn't showing 80% full, is that true?
Thank you for all your help and time. I really appreciate it. I was told on social media that "HeavyD" knows his stuff! Thanks again!

Hotter down the road is usually road air getting forced through the blower box or temp blend door not working properly. Couple of things, if you put your ac on "MAX" this closes the fresh air door and recirculates the interior air to hopefully keep the hot road air out. You can also get coolant shut off taps installed to help keep wasted heat from the heater core out of there too. If you already have the ac on max, then the fresh air door might not be working properly and or the temp blend door is acting up.
If the sleeper section has been cut off, then the refrigerant level would need a slight adjustment. 3 pounds is spec for sleepers, 2.5 is spec for day cabs. So it depends where he cut it off at and how much extra lines under the sleeper are still connected.
His Snap On scanner is fine for checking faults and changing your parameters, but calibration updates is something they cannot do. This requires NAVKAL which is a separate program and access to Navistar servers. This is typically a dealer only thing.
47% on the DPF is just showing the current soot load. This % constantly increases as you drive and once the ECM sees about 70-80% it will start a regen on its own while you are driving to burn that soot back down to a lower %. So yes, it is normal and fine to see that.

The light comes at a certain level, since all trucks are different with different size tanks, there is no rule to that other than don't mess around. You don't want to be on an incline and have fuel run to the back of the tank and leave the pick up tube high and dry. As for your fuel mileage, check for boost leaks, fresh air filters, proper driving technique is important too, no offence. Might want to consider a valve adjustment as well.
