One, you don't want a 2010 model year, no matter what you choose. New emissions law took affect that year and it's basically a first year model. bleech. (same issue with 07's)
As someone said earlier, the maxxforce is bad, stay away. and just in case no one else has, the Mercedes is a POS too
a truck is a truck is a truck, it's all about engine, drive train and maintenance.
Figure no matter what you buy, you're going to have to put 5 grand or more into it in the first month, you just don't know on what.
Knowing what i know now (i.e. learned the hard way) Buy from a private guy, who either has a small fleet on an O/O that has records and well maintained. You'll pay less and get a better truck. -

i appreciate the feedback. i am the first to admit im not an expert on the mechanical side of trucking. the reason i considered the prostar at first is because of a warranty. I am very business minded and pretty money savy butby no means a mechanic so i always seek advice and opinions. i plan on focusing my search on at pre emissions freightliner of peterbilt and make sure i have plenty of money set aside for repairs.

Aren't your running an isx in your Volvo? Saw the light on your dash not too long ago.
btw- to any interested parties: Not sure if my mx13 is an isolated incident, though I doubt it from the other drivers I'm talking to...but maybe opt for the ISX when considering a paccar product. That is unless you like your dashboard looking like a Christmas tree everyday. -
Munoz pretty much pulled all the ISX engine trucks off the road fleet and put them on the local fleet due to all the problems. Didn't want any more high dollar issues (the truck I had before this one had an ISX and cost the company $8400 on a DPF failure in Buffalo NY). They bought a bunch of them to beat the 2010 DEF requirement as they were early 2010's with EPA 2007 engines but wound up being headaches. -
Take your time and research and look around. Don't go by what a truck looks like, ie: pretty. A plain jane truck will make just as much money as a fancy one. 40K will buy you a decent truck and you will still have money left over for a maintenance fund right off the bat. Remember it's not "if it's gonna break down, it's when". Sounds like you've got a clue but don't fall for "newer is better". 2004 or older is your best bet. PM me if you like. -
I found a nice 2000 Freightliner FLD120 on truck paper with a 435hp Cummins N14 that I'd jump on if I was getting into a truck. The N14 is like Steven Segal, it's Hard to Kill.
