Two of the most robbed industries right now are rideshare and taxi drivers, there've been 8 mugged/killed in the last two month, one just two weeks ago in Pitts. I know of several who have been robbed at knife point in recent weeks, but drivers are starting to fight back, though I've all but stopped doing Lyft on weekends, the last two years I carried bear spray or pepper spray of the same strength as law enforcement, perusing one of the rideshare facebook groups this morning for Denver, two drivers posted they were robbed last night. One woman I'm friends with, her and 4 other female drivers took classes last week and have applied for their CCW. Scared, no, I call it caution

When I was doing Lyft on a regular basis, the can of pepper spray was beside my right knee, there was another can beside my left knee, if I needed it, I could honestly grab it without being noticed. That would be enough to allow me to get the car stopped, even in the middle of traffic and get out

I don’t normally get involved in these types of threads, but I will say you bring about some good points here, especially about situational awareness, which is something a truck driver should have a lot of anyway. When in traffic, we (well, at least the good ones anyway) keep a constant eye out for all sorts of potential catastrophes, and we act accordingly to prevent them. When we see a drunk driver swerving all over his lane, do we drive up to him and let him hit us, knowing it will be his fault? Of course not! We back off, call the cops, try to warn other drivers, etc. At least I hope everyone here would do those things.

I try to apply that same logic to self defense. Do I carry a gun? Yes. There I said it. I carry a small 9mm pretty much everywhere I go. It’s just another part of my everyday things that I carry, like my wallet, a pen, chapstick, lighter, etc. No big deal. Doesn’t mean I walk around waving it at everyone I disagree with. But I try to keep a pretty sharp eye out and if I see trouble brewing up ahead, or the potential for trouble, I try to steer clear. If there is an innocent victim in need of assistance, I will try to assist as much as I can. That should be a good rule to live by for everyone, whether you are pro gun or not.

Why do anti self defense people always think that everyone becomes Chuck Norris or Jackie Chan all of a sudden when attacked?
Just grab a nearby object like Jackie Chan and magical know how to defend yourself with a flower pot.
Be such a ###### like Chuck Norris that bad guys just give up or run away swearing to give up their nefarious ways.
    Yeah right.
Truth of the matter is if you're attacked it is already an unfair fight.
The attacker is already in the mindset that your life doesn't matter and is willing to hurt or kill you. Normal people don't think that way, normal people don't want to harm anyone. That is why decent people need to have an equalizer.
I'm not afraid of the world like anti self defense people would like to believe but I have experienced enough of this world not to be oblivious to the dangers in it.

I hope my posts didn’t come off as I am walking around armed to the hilt. I don’t scream 2nd Amendment from the hilltops. I don’t own a lot of firearms at all. I just refuse to not have the most powerful tool against an attacker at my disposal. I conceal carry. You can’t even see the bulge/outline most of the time depending on what I wear. So I don’t flash it around. It’s just there.

I don’t want to hurt anyone for the heck of it. I DO want to hurt the attacker of myself or an Innocent victim. Everyone should want to protect the innocent in a bad situation.

I said it before, a gun can diffuse a situation without being fired. Every gun owner isn’t going to pull and fire away. They should be ready to depending how the situation escalates.

    This is all really simple.

I actually do see it as a preventive tool.
My Mom used a firearm to prevent being attacked as a teenager in Santa Cruz and later while living with me in a wealthy area. The presence of a firearm is often enough to stop an attack. Violent criminals don't want a armed victim.

Just because you have a firearm doesn't mean that you have to use it.
