    Hello.
I am trying to become a truck driver (Stevens). They made me fill out a form where I was to declare if I took any medications. I did take a med some time ago. That medication, though was for a specific disorder, affected my behavior absolutely none. But because I took this medication, they now want me to go to a psychiatrist and get a psychiatric evaluation. But it can't be any psychiatrist. It has to be one familiar with trucking and DOT industry.

    I am in Dallas/Ft.Worth area.

Does anyone know any psychiatrists that specifically deal with truckers or are familiar with our industry.

Any input is appreciated and I hope I get to see one soon as I want to start trucking before the cold season begins.

Heres what you do. Go to another company. Fill out your app. DO NOT VOLUNTEER INFORMATION. Just tell them you want to drive a truck. Take it from there. If your not on meds, none of their business.

A friends husband drove in Canada a few years ago and they pulled this stunt on him basically, had him railroaded off driving for 6 mo before they would approve his CDL to drive again. I guess they are afraid that people on bipolar and other psychotic type drugs are not going to go off their rocker and use the truck for a weapon. Got plenty of road rage drivers that aren't on meds and should be.

Yep sounds like you need to try somewhere else and not list it if you aren't on it.

Go to any lunch counter @ a truckstop, you'll find one there. You'll also find (alleged)retired Navy Seals, cops, dot cops, lawyers etc, etc, etc.

I'd have to agree here. If you are no longer taking them, go find another company and apply. Again DO NOT VOLUNTEER any medical history of medications that is not relevant TODAY.

Example: I had wisdom teeth pulled years ago. They gave me Vicodin. I took some of the Vicodin and then never took it again since. Is it relevant today? No.

Special forces Iraqi submarine unit was what I personally use to do.Had a ##### of a time navigating that nuclear sub in the desert...But that was then..I just drive now..

No, they're afraid of lawyers for the plaintiff in civil court.
If they allow someone to drive for them with an admitted mental health record, this subjects them to losing in court if the driver should be involved in an injury accident. Now, had they never been told...they could never be found complicit. But now that they know...

When they ask you these things it's not "true confessions" time.
You're dealing with lawyers and liability exposure.
You have to think like a lawyer representing yourself.
It's not personal and they're not making a medical decision, they're making a LEGAL one.
