Uber is quite worth doing when you're in between jobs

Are you sure you still have a valid cdl? If you've had it for a while and haven't updated your medical card and haven't self certified you may find your cdl is no longer valid. Some states are a bigger pain about it than others, not sure about Texas.

I used to work for a local expedited company that had part time work to fit my schedule while I was going to college. We had anything from semis to sprinter vans, running semis for them paid my way through college. Worth looking into.

I tried to do exactly what you're wanting to do when I was transitioning from white collar work (I wanted to keep that salary as long as possible). What I found is that the only part-time CDL jobs were either day hours...or "On-Call." I think you're going to have some difficulty finding a company that will be willing to overlook: 1. Your availability, 2. Lack of experience, and 3. The fact that their company is not REALLY going to be a big priority to you. It's just an extra paycheck.

I got a part-time job at Lowe's for a bit while I was an office drone. I did 40 hours in the office and 20-30 hours at Lowe's. I got an extra $500+/month out of that. The hours got to me after a few months though. 0800-1700 in the office and 1730-2300 at the store got real old real quick. The extra money was nice though.

It's a tough call making that jump from a salaried job to an hourly gig. Especially taking a leap and going to a completely different field. As they say...sometimes you've just got to "S*** or get off the pot."

p.s. As marineman227 pointed out...if it's been a while since you got your CDL...I'm betting that your medical card is expired.
