Kirk, I'm going to go to La. Technical in Thibodoux, a sister school of Acadiana. Yes, Acadiana is PTDI certified and La. Tech/ Thibodaux isn't, but on Schneider's web site, Thibodoux is listed as an approved school in La. but Acadiana isn't. But, I'm willing to bet that if Acadiana grads applied to Schneider, they would be considered.

So.... did you make it through your school? What was your overall impression of the school; did they seem to prepare you well? Did you get pre-hired by anyone?

I think one of the major positive attributes of a PTDI certified course is that it requires students to receive a minimum of actual behind-the-wheel time. They wanted to create a standard to ensure schools (public or private) are preparing students to an entry-level level.
In 2008, the FMCSA was very close on passing legislation that would require training standards similar to that of PTDI courses and I would not be surprised if this came into law within this decade.
As more school's become PTDI certified, I believe the private industry will require these certs from schools before the government mandates it. If you examine the training requirements by PTDI, they do push for MUCH better education than the "state certified" fly-by-night schools. -
I'm sorry but don't you go to the DMV in your state and pass a road test before getting your cdl? If a non PDTI school sends someone to the local state DMV and they pass doesn't that mean they can drive a truck? If not then guess theres a flaw in there somewhere. Theres some lawyers that went to harvard and some that went to a local communtity college and worked there way up. Pretty sure they both had to pass the bar. My local school in Liverpool NY thats PDTI certified is 8000 dollars. It's the only one and I think the first week or two is spent studying so that you can pass a test for a permit, that you could study on in your own home for and pass. I can say honestly that if i was an employer of truckers I would look at the person and not PTDI cert that some school paid for so that they could charge 8000 dollars for cdl training.
