Listen I am not an advocate of Unions but the best thing that could happen to OTR drivers right now is a major Company to have it's labor organize. Extreme enviroments are a part of trucking be it 100 degree weather or -20. You can't get proper rest if your awake due to weather. We as a society don't allow dogs to be shut into cars in 100 degree weather but it's OK for a driver. We got to force the change from the driver level and lone voices can't do it. We got to stand together and thats in a union.

PTL and every other major company could have and can have APUs put into every truck they buy or lease for $1,000 to $2,000 as the trucks are assembled with their buying power. That's a 1.25% increase in the total cost of truck at most with a tax break to drive total cost even lower. They choose not to because your welfare and health is none of their concern. You are a part to PTL no different than a bulb, turbo, or clutch that can be replaced when it wears out. OOIDA, Teamsters, and other driver groups need to force a change in the laws requiring all New Trucks sold to fleets with 125 or more trucks to have APUs. It would create thousands of new jobs, truly save fuel, and help the enviroment while improving work place saftey and driver health.

Werner does not have APU'S on every truck, i was at the fontana cali terminal just 3 weeks ago and there were a lot of trucks there with out them, and the ones that did have APU'S were broke and the shop was refusing to fix them along with refusing to fix the A/C on the trucks, So weiner blue screw is not a great company, they suck rotten tomatoes.

I have noticed TriPacs on lots of Werner trucks. I'm also seeing them on plenty of Prime and TransAm trucks, neither of which have the best reputations on this forum. And Marten, which has its share of negative threads here, has APUs on every OTR truck in its fleet.

I did state every truck newer then 2007, and I do not work there now so I do not know anything more about the shop refusing to repair. When I was there however, ONLY Omaha was authorized to repair them. We had to get ours repaired 3 times, and everytime we had no issue getting it repaired they sent us to carrier repair to do it.

As for average joe, I don't believe you. Period end of story. Name the grants you got, and for what.

To date I've personally overseen my nfp applied for a little over 20 grants, 11 federal, 6 private, the rest state. We have been awarded 4 of them. All for nfp reasons.

The FP grants are very rare. Despite with that idiot in the question mark suit states.

I used to work for this company and my problems started right from the beginning. My recruiter's name was Kim M and she was rude and could not answer my questions properly. Trust me, these recruiters get an incentive off each driver they bring in so you are just another bonus check to them. She had to constantly put me on hold to even answer the simpliest questions and acted put out by them. Other drivers that worked there also complained about how snotty she was but apparently she can lie well enough to get drivers in the door. IF YOU CALL AND GET HER AS YOUR DISPATCHER, STOP RIGHT THERE!!!!!!! Dispatch was worse, when my mother died and I needed to get home to bury her they said "no, your family will wait on you" They were completley insensitive to my situation. This is a bad, bad company who don't care about their drivers. You are just a money maker to them. I advise all drivers to stay away from this corrupt, no good company.

I had my own truck leased to them back in 2004 and encountered the same disrespectful, uncaring treatment from Randy, the dispatcher I was assigned to then.

My maternal Grandmother passed away in June 2004 and I got word of it while I was in Rockford, IL. I gave them some time to find me a load going toward home and then they tried to get me to run a load that delivered in Orange, TX the day of the funeral- NO WAY, and I had my doubts that they would've had me drop it in Houston or get repowered.

I deadheaded home to San Antonio and took some time off while demanding a different dispatcher. The new one I had (Stephanie Rutledge) was pretty nice and did a better job at getting me home when my neighbor passed away in November of that same year. When I quit to do a local contract she was very nice about it and asked me to come back if it didn't work out for me. She was OK but the rest of the company was horrible enough to where I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

Why do I have to be a driver/former driver to comment? That makes tons of sense. I was posting what I know. You sound bitter.

I understand completely what you're saying... but as long as there is money to be made (regardless of if you have to fight with the driver/customer/whatever), even if it's a small profit, it's going to happen or at least be attempted.

It's the business' responsibility to make sure they stay open and turn a profit. If it means less idling, that's just the way it is. I'm not saying I agree with turning the truck off in 26 degree weather, I'm just saying that before feelings, before being uncomfortable, the business is there to make money.

Also, I heard from two drivers that PTL was a great line. One even went as far as saying it was the best he's ever worked for. I'll tell you their recruiters for o/o's are very sly... but that's about all I know first hand.
