PTSD & Trucking

US Postal Service is the largest employer of military vets and it still amazes me that the term "Going Postal" still exits to this day.

Back in the '80's when they had all them shooting spree's going on at the PO and the term "Going Postal" was created, unfortunately some were committed by vietnam vets. I think back then, they really didn't FULLY realize and understand what PTSD was, compared to what we know today. Traumatic event's can affect everyone in different ways...whether it's from war, rape, sexual abuse, accident, survivors guilt, burglary, attempted murder, etc., to even bullying...and it can be confused with being bi-polar and other mental problems.

At my barn, 1 out of every 2 employee's are military vets. I think having that many veterans working at one place actually helps them because there's more of a comraderie and support for their fellow vets. If anything, more companies should hire more veterans instead less.

 

PTSD is very real and not just for military service. We will see how you are after witnessing or being involved in a fatal accident or one where the injuries were so horrendous you will never forget the screams of agony. There is nothing to prepare you for the sight, smell and sounds when these happen.

 

Its true. I survived "The Beast" fire in Alberta. Drove right through the center of it trying to escape. Even now I still get a mild panic attack the odd time when I drive past certain homes I watched burn up. Compared to what military men and women likely experience that was probably on the lower end of the traumatic spectrum. I wouldn't doubt the stuff they see in combat would be enough to cause mental health issues.

I never play Call of duty that $$$$ is for Sissy's. I like white knuckle drives in bad weather. Now leave me and my ELD, and PTSD be.

Truckers coach(roach) supposedly had his own authority and now this?...i always knew this fool was a flake...

 

Well he is a Marine Vet I think, just like Lil dog, Lil guy, and some others but only the very few will start their own authority and succeed to keep it. If you can't fix your own truck when not on warranty that's just tough nookies.

 

I've watched enough of his videos going back a few yrs...he's a joke...I've had personal dealings with him online...if disagree with him, he mocks you..

 

Not to mock PTSD, but I have to ask, why didn't WW2 vets have an equivalent? Was it because so much of the population was involved in the war effort that there was more support? It was just a thing you did and moved on? Were our grandparents tougher? Was it that we didn't stay in a protracted 18 year long war where we're fighting a asymmetric enemy who could be a civilian today and a suicide bomber tomorrow?

Non military here, and I grew up with the (older than me) Nam vets who put up with a lot of crap when they got home, but compared to the 70's as a country we've been much more supportive of our vets than we were back then.
