I understand that work verification in this industry is extremely important to employers and something that applicants need to try and get as accurate as possible. The company I'll be joining wants 10 years worth of work history, as many companies do. I'm only 27 so this is going to encompass several gigs from when I bartended my way through college as well as summer jobs when I was in high school. I mean, the spectrum is going to start when I was 17 years old so use your imagination.
I have this huge fear that I'm going to miss some obscure part time job or get some dates wrong and jeopardize starting my career in this industry which I want very badly.
Where do these companies pull your work history from? And the reason I ask is because I would like to pull my work history report (if one exists) beforehand so I can be sure I report everything correctly.
I went to the DMV and purchased a copy of my driving record so I could be sure I got the date right on one old speeding ticket, so if I could do something similar for my work history I would love to do that.

They're not really pulling a work record, they mostly just call and verify the employers you gave them. I wouldn't worry too much about it. They really just want to see gaps in employment and considering you were in school during a lot you don't remember they'll be content just knowing you were in school during that time period. I never list the jobs I had during college and never have a problem.

TruckersaurusRex Thanks this. -
Thanks, that's really a relief to read. I'll stop sweating it so much. Some of the posts on this website can really lead you to being petrified of the pre-employment process.

Social security has some onfo,
as does the IRS......... -
I looked into the Social Security employment record report since I'm a little fuzzy on some of the dates myself. Their website says it takes 4-6 months for them to send it to you! Ouch!

can't you see it online....?

I believe you can only see how much you've contributed online, but not which employers you worked for and what dates you've worked for them.
To get a list of all the employers you've worked for and dates, you have to mail in a form. It's fairly expensive too, depending on how far back you want them to go.

Since you are young, I would advise you to buy "planner" and keep a diary of dates. Start and stop dates of employers you will work for. It will come in handy as you get older, because trying to remember dates even 6 or 7 years ago is a problem. Anyone should do this after leaving high school. Only takes a minute to make entries. It's called being organized.

I am looking to give the employer exactly what they need to fulfill their employment verification process. So, is the employer going through social security to pull records something that is probable or likely?

Well I do now simply by maintaining a resume, which I think is what most people do. But I had no need for a resume until I was done with school.
